We worked with Erik Lobeck on a 640 square foot addition. We had a a specific budget that Erik worked within to accomplish our goals. The result was a master new bedroom/bathroom, guest room, office, and a remodel of the original structure. His knowledge of efficient building technologies and living in the high Rockies resulted in converting our small 2 person studio into a very livable space for our family. I highly recommend working with Erik if you are looking for creativity and efficiency in your new house or addition.

Erik Lobeck, principal of Workshop L, designed my 3 story contemporary home in the alpine ski-town of Steamboat Springs, CO. His knowledge of passive haus principles, his educational background in Design and Architecture (Rhode Island School of Design; University of Washington Graduate School of Architecture), and his experience building houses in our challenging 7000Ft. high northern Colorado climate contributed to the ultimate and awesome success of this project. But most impressive is Erik's massive creativity and originality which he applied to even the smallest details of my home such that every aspect of the house WORKS WELL with no compromise to its ARTISTIC allure. He initiated many energy saving ideas; problem-solved to squeeze maximum storage and livability from the small 1200+ sq.ft. vertical structure; and invented numerous graceful and classically beautiful features both inside and out such as a glass, wood, steel and 3-form staircase and a facade with generous windows and green perforated screen panels in pleasing and interesting arrangement with one another- like a minimalist sculpture. At the start, Erik devoted time to really knowing the site and the challenges of the light before beginning. He spent time getting to know my tastes and invited me to the design table, too, so that the house would be uniquely suited to my lifestyle. Once the design took shape, he watched carefully to make sure it was executed sustainably, sturdily, and with excellent craftsmanship. The result is the inviting, energizing, sun-filled, cutting-edge yet comfortable environment I call home. I highly recommend Workshop L's work for those who wish to "push the envelope" artistically yet demand comfort, livability, and sustainability of their dwelling.

Utilized workshopL for both the design and the construction management phase of the project. Worked together for 18 months for the completion of a single family residence. They listened to our stated needs and employed innovative solutions to our challenges. Erik Lobeck is a local expert when it comes to energy effecient building. He's well versed on the stringent Passive House requirements and has even constructed a project on his own using the Passive House platform. As a General Contractor I have found that Erik has a wealth of information and is happy to share it. Building in the extreme environment of Steamboat Springs Colorado high in the Rocky Mountains has its challenges and Erik designs smart, good looking, energy efficient homes for the Yampa Valley.

Wow... great work and incredible attention to detail. It is a rare event that you can achieve the aesthetic, ergonomic, comfort AND energy efficiency objectives that Erik Lobeck is able to achieve. His buildings look great, they are incredibly comfortable, they are incredibly well designed and cost next to nothing to operate. What more can you ask for? In summary, you cannot go wrong with Erik. He will stretch you in ways that you didn't anticipate. However, you will have an end product that you could not anticipate either. Your end product, home or commercial building, will exceed your expectations in many ways.

WorkshopL designed and built a small contemporary Passive House dwelling unit in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Since it is located in a ski resort, the climate for this project is severe, making it extremely difficult to meet the Passive House criteria. The result is a very cool, very energy efficient, and very comfortable dwelling to be enjoyed by generations.
