Horwitz A+D

I found Horwitz A + D, and Dulcie Horwitz in particular, to be a true partner and advocate. As a designer, Dulcie is very observant and sensitive to the desires of the client and translates those desires into various design schemes. She just seemed to have a knack for interpreting my "style" and finding the right design for me, the site, and my surrounding neighborhood. She explained the concepts and issues with each scheme in easy-to-understand terms to help me choose a design pathway. Importantly, throughout the design development process, she continued to listen and readily adjust the design when needed. In my case, I was looking to complete a facade remodel on a challenging hillside site in Los Angeles. My home is 70 years old and though it was by far, not the biggest project she has undertaken, she gave it her full attention and I found her to be highly responsive throughout the process. She did not shy away from solving problems - sometimes offering elegant design and sometimes presenting more practical solutions. From a construction standpoint, Dulcie is also very adept at "getting a project through" the Building Department - even with the pandemic! And she has a network of builders and engineers and helps the client choose the right building partners. My project has required very little construction oversight but she has been very accessible to answer questions and guide construction details. As I write this we are about halfway through the project. Finally, on a personal note, she is warm and understanding when the stresses of tearing up your home become overwhelming - and she is helpful in mitigating any unneccesary stress. A wonderful and well-rounded architect.

I am currently working on my third project with Dulcie. My last project in Mar Vista was hugely successful and resulted in a beautiful home that could have easily been my forever home. Dulcie is knowledgeable and creative, but also very easy to work with and open to my input and ideas. I am a hands-on homeowner who stays deeply involved in the entire process, and Dulcie is the ideal partner for me.

Dulcie worked with my wife and me to make various interior remodel improvements to our house when we purchased it. She helped us to design the kitchen and master bath along with other areas and helping us select various lighting fixtures to ultimately make it great! One of things that was extremely helpful was that she took pictures of various items online that we liked such as different lighting fixtures for our dining room and superimposed them in pictures in the room as it looked with our furniture and unique window panel. This way we could actually see how what we were interested in would look in the room setting. That made it much easier to select what would work knowing we'd like it once it was installed. One other great thing about Dulcie is she is also a fantastic person to work with a couple that may not necessarily always agree on things. That alone saved a lot of time and $ in therapy sessions! Last, Dulcie also just recently helped me to select various materials, design elements and make some final decisions with a rental house I was remodeling. That gave me a lot of piece of mind to get her opinion knowing it would make the end result successful. I assure if you work with her, you won't be sorry.

I worked with Dulce on a kitchen remodel. She took my vision and wish list and made it into a reality. From concept to final design ...it was seamless. She is very professional and such a pleasure to work with. She checks all the boxes. Could not have asked for a better experience. I absolutely love my kitchen!!

Dulcie created 2 small projects for us 2005. The first was built in cabins for our living room. She first reviewed the objects of art that we wanted to display in the cabinets. In addition, we wanted a place for our stereo components, audio tapes, video tapes and DVD collection. Dulcie designed a beautiful cabinet to house everything. Because she did such a fabulous job on that we hired her again to design our bedroom furniture. Dulcie is easy to work with and very creative. I highly recommend her whether you are building a new home or remolding your existing home.

I have used Dulcie's professional services to help me turn my home from a 1970's outdated home into a stunning Estate Property. I have worked with Dolcie for many years. Before choosing her as our Archetict we interviewed numerous others. Choosing the right Architect is one of the most important decisions a home owner can make in a large remodel or new construction (do not skimp on design development you will regret it). A good Architect must share your vision, and be able to value engineer many of your hopes into reality. Our project took two years to design and two years to build, and she guided my wife and I through the entire process. I have included photos of our house shortly after it was completed. Researching Architects?? Grab a coffee and have seat... I really can't say enough good things about this lady. Almost feel guilty for what I am about to say because basically we are pretty awful clients and she still bent over backwards, performed arial acrobatics and some fisticuffs at all random times during the 24 hr rotation of the earth! But when you have a dream project isn't that what you want everyone involved to be like? To share that passion and tireless effort? That's Dulcie Horwitz. There were times when she would be more excited about looking at samples, drawings and/or accessories than us! You really need that, especially when things get daunting. On the other hand, she is so pro that she knows how to keep your feet on the ground when it comes to your budget and what you ACTUALLY want. Sometimes picking out the most expensive thing isn't the answer and conversely, the cheaper option may ruin the entire project in the end. Horwitz is value and whatever she touches becomes valuable! I have done 4-5 projects with her ranging from simple, cheap renovation to entire commercial/retail build outs. Sometimes, I want to start a new project just so I can see her and hang out in her world. She is THAT fascinating! Did I mention she drives an american hot rod? I mean c'mon If you can get her, pin her down quick! You won't be sorry.

Dulcie was able to capture our intent and create 3 design options from a brief conversation and a lot of pointing and arm waving. Output was simple and well thought out.
