Dianne Davant founded her interior design firm in 1979 in Blowing Rock, North Carolina. Now celebrating over 40 years, the firm has grown to include several very talented designers that dedicate themselves to providing the very best in interior design. While maintaining the company headquarters at the foot of Grandfather Mountain in Banner Elk, North Carolina, the firm opened an additional design studio in Florida in 1996. The dual studios allow Dianne and the design staff the convenience to work with clients throughout the year at either design studio. Both studios house a remarkable library of furnishing, fabric, flooring, wall covering and accessory selections and serve as the firm’s own in-house design centers. The American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) is the leading professional organization for interior designers. Professional members must complete a combination of accredited design education and work experience as well as pass the accreditation exam administered by the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ). Each senior member of the design staff is a professional Member of ASID and has successfully completed the educational requirements and the NCIDQ exam. We just finished a remodel of a family home in North Carolina, so we reached out to Dianne Davant and Associates to help us with the project. We worked with Margaret Handley, who was terrific!! She quickly picked up on our style and taste, made great suggestions and created a design that worked perfectly for our family's lifestyle. We also live out of state, so Margaret had to lead the project remotely. She communicated quickly and efficiently, kept us involved in all of the design decisions, and earned our trust implicitly. From beginning to end the whole process was smooth, professional, and an overall delight. I highly recommend Dianne and her team for anyone seeking a beautiful design from a competent and wonderful design firm.

Margaret McKibbin

Pam McKay was a godsend. We renovated a home long-distance and she was wonderful about communicating with me, working within our budget, listening to us, introducing us to reputable subcontractors, and...yes, pushing us a bit out of our comfort zone. We ended up with a GORGEOUS home that's comfortable, much more up-to-date and perfect for us. I feel SO fortunate that Pam was recommended to us and that she took such good care of us and our project.

Margaret Handley is delightful and a real pro. She has helped us from the beginning of our mountain house construction. She listens carefully to get a sense of the client’s style, and uses her skills to create accordingly. Margaret is especially innovative with space design. She helped us create and use space more interestingly, more productively and in ways that enhance the aesthetics. We highly recommend her.

Margaret Handley worked with us on two projects - a mountain house and a city house. Each design was distinctive and lovely. Our big mountain house needed everything: interior and exterior renovation required design support on all levels and Margaret delivered spectacular results. Our 100 year old city house required expert input on furniture and fabrics in several rooms, which Margaret handled beautifully.

I have been working with Margaret Handley on my mountain home remodel. Project has included full remodel, including cabinets, flooring and furniture. Margaret has done a terrific job across all aspects, including floor plan redesign. She's responsive and has worked well with the contractor. She's also well connected in the community to provide additional referrals as needed. I highly recommend working with Margaret and Davant.

We recently purchased a new condo in Boone, NC. As a Christmas gift, my husband told me to hire a decorator. Our primary residence is 2.5 hours away and I can’t run back and forth to decorate. After comparing various decorators in the area, I chose Margaret Handley from Dianne Davant and Associates in Banner Elk, NC. When we had our initial meeting, I described my family, vision for the condo and color preferences. After choosing a few pieces together, Margaret was on her own. Wow! She did not disappoint. My husband was impressed with her attention to detail and our grown sons all said she really gets me. I could not be happier.

We enjoyed an exceptional relationship with our talented and compassionate designer, Pam McKay. Pam graciously worked with much of our existing furniture and art work and truly created a home for our family that we adore. Pam was able to create our home in a matter of a couple of months and we thoroughly appreciate every moment of commitment and creativity that she has but into this project. Our family wants to give a huge thank you to Peter Brown and to Gary Fox who have provided a remarkable service to us. Peter and Gary did the pick up, the delivery and much of the placement of our furnishings. Their happy smiles and can do attitudes made our move so much fun. They could not have been more helpful and their energy, expertise and reliability are absolutely worth noting.

We recently renovated our basement in our mountain home. Our contractor referred us to Margaret Handley and we are so glad he did! Margaret always provides lots of choices, reasonably priced, and is very open minded. Most importantly, she is very patient and never gets frustrated or annoyed, at least not in front of us!! We changed our mind many times, stalled on several things, reordered a few products since we didn't like our initial choice, etc. Margaret handled it all with grace, reassurance and calm demeanor. We are thoroughly enjoying our new basement and all of the furniture, expertise, and finishing touches which Margaret provided.

Margaret Handley is an incredible talent. She has the ability to understand your specific needs and provide thoughtful inspiration. She balances function with design, and her eye for colors, textures, scale and shapes - things frankly that I wouldn't think could fit together - and bring them into a room in concert. It's pure magic. She helped orchestrate vendors (carpet and wallpaper install, furniture delivery of our and her items, painters, electricians and even down to picture hangers), and for our needs this was very supportive. We met some very responsive vendors (eg - window treatments) and contractors (furniture storage) through their successful relationships with DD&A. We're in the final stages, and she has introduced a few items (eg - jack bookends!) that add a special touch. We truly appreciated her professionalism and partnership in Banner Elk!

Pam McKay, of Dianne Davant and Associates, was recommended to us to help with our remodel in the Hound Ears Community near Boone, NC. We found her to be very resourceful, with great ideas to furnish, decorate, and reconfigure our dated ski chalet into a "mountain modern" cottage designed to accommodate not only us, but our children and grandchildren as well. Pam did not disappoint! If we deemed one of her suggestions too expensive for our budget, she simply found a more economical solution. She is the perfect choice to bring mountain decor into a home while maintaining a feeling of modern, simple elegance. In addition, my husband was so impressed with her knowledge of quality residential construction. So, with Pam, you get more than a person to pick out fabric and furniture; you get a true partner in both construction and design. Pam, as well as the entire office staff at Davant, are all very professional and great to work with. I highly recommend this company and Pam McKay, in particular.

At the suggestion of our builder, we hired this company for the entirety of our project. Specifically, he referred us to their designer Margaret Handley. She has been with us from the first shovel of dirt! Her input has been invaluable....she has an impeccable eye. For design, color, and the layout of rooms, closets, bathrooms....anything! She has made recommendations that so improved even what the architect had planned! My husband and I live in Florida, so we have not been able to be the overseers of our project. We have put our trust in Margaret and Diane Davant and Assoc. They have been the best!! We are in the stage of ordering and placing furniture. Margaret has been excellent in her ability to design and combine different and fun elements...and because this is a second home....has worked wonderfully within our budget. She is so good....she has even been able to please both me and my husband!!! LOL! And that is not such an easy task! She is easy and pleasant to work with as are the rest of the staff. We have loved working with this design firm!

We hired Dianne Davant and Associates to help coordinate the design of our much anticipated vacation home in Blowing Rock, NC. Living several hours away we felt we needed the help of a professional to assist in the many aspects of designing and furnishing a home. Our initial phone call was returned promptly by designer Margaret Handley, who patiently answered all of our questions and thoroughly explained the benefits of working with the firm. She provided the perfect amount of hand-holding but was also able to gently push us to consider design elements and furnishings outside of our comfort zone. Always respectful of budget and quick to respond in any situation, hiring Margaret was certainly one of the best decisions we made in our home building journey. Couldn't have done it without her!

While we initially liked our designer, Margaret Handley, by the end of the project we were disappointed we had hired her. While Margaret never asked us what our furnishing budget was, we told her repeatedly that we didn't want to pay top dollar but didn't want cheap. We found ourselves constantly pushing back on her suggestions with "that's too much money" and ended up buying most of our furniture on our own. Margaret has good taste in colors but then she picks a paint type that continually showed up as streaks due to the amount of wall space we had. After 3 coats we gave up and even our contractor told Margaret and us "that's the worst type of paint to use"; Margaret never apologized or suggested anything else. Our kitchen cabinets took 2 extra months because Margaret never sat down with us and the cabinet designer, when we were all in NC at the same time, to get all of the questions around design answered and settled. She even ordered the incorrect glass panels on them and blamed it on the cabinet company which we later found out to be false information.

Very professional and knowledgeable. So helpful to us in making design decisions. Thousands of fabric samples in inventory! Margaret really picked up on our styles and tastes quickly. Our timeline was met even though it changed several times. When we walked into our home and saw the final product, we were in love with everything! And it felt like it was our home completely. Working with Dianne Davant and Associates was the best decision we made when it came to furnishing and designing the interior of our home!

We started with a few small upgrades and redecoration of our existing home but as we worked with Diane and her excellent staff we learned how skilled they were and worked well as a team. One thing lead to another and in deciding to build a new home we did not hesitate to ask Davannt Associates to sign on and help with the planning details, and ultimate decoration and furnishing. To complicate matters we decided on a LEED certified house which Davannt Associates are trained and certified to do. The importance of a strong team from the start is the only way to create a wellengineered home. Diane and her group Davannt Associates has exceeded every expectation and have been professionals that have made the planning and building process a dream.

Dianne Davant and her team designed my family's vacation home in Blowing Rock and did fantastic work! The home is polished yet inviting and every detail and accessory seems to be perfectly in place. My favorite aspects of their design is the inventive bunk room they designed for our lower level, for such a small space it is comfortable enough for adults. I highly recommend Diane for projects in both Florida and North Carolina!
