There aren't enough good things to say about Spurlocks. We had a very difficult job in our backyard... not much access, old bluestone that we wanted them to work with and match, working around a large tree, etc. They were the most professional, attentive, company I've EVER worked with. Our patio came out PERFECT - way more than I expected - I feel bad for anyone I work with in the future because Spurlocks has set the bar HIGH. Some honorable mentions: Derick and Jeff (owners/partners) - what an amazing eye for design they have and we never felt pushed into doing anything we didn't want - when we asked to add on a couple more jobs that we hadn't discussed, they were extremely accommodating and everything was completed to perfection. Steve and Steve - It was so impressive how they led their crew - showed up on time every day, stayed late and never took any short cuts. One day it got unexpectedly VERY cold and they were all told they could leave if needed - no one left - stayed until they finished their job - I've never been so impressed. I didn't catch the name of all the men working - but there wasn't one among them that doesn't deserve to be mentioned for what an outstanding job they did. I cannot recommend Spurlocks enough!

I couldn’t be more pleased with the work I had done by Spurlocks! I hired them for several projects around my home. 1) They replaced my front walkway with a beautiful new paver walkway and natural stone steps. 2) They dug out the cobblestone that surrounded my backyard patio and gardens and put down new landscape fabric, cobblestone and bluestone pavers. 3) They refurbished and built the walls up higher on a back door entryway that lead to a below ground level area of my home. In addition, they addressed many drainage issues I had with underground drainage systems and downspouts. All of this work was completed within only 6 days. Jeff Piper seamlessly coordinated all aspects of the projects both before work began and on through to completion. He clearly communicated with me each and every day that work took place and most often in person. He kept me very well informed, allowing me to feel at ease throughout the entire process. Steve Wier, the project manager, was very knowledgeable, competent and hard working. He came up with excellent ideas to help better drain water away from my house. He too went out of his way to communicate with me, running things by me, making sure I understood everything and answering my questions. Derek Spurlock worked out a plan for my rear entryway that kept my costs down considerably while effectively keeping water from entering my home. The rest of the crew, Steve, Nolan and Tyler were great as well. They were very hard working, talented and a pleasure to work with. All of the work I had done turned out beautifully and will add value to my home. All in all, Spurlocks is an exceptional company that takes great pride in what they do and it shows!

I can’t say enough about the job Spurlocks did replacing our old concrete front walk with beautiful pavers! Jeff Piper was great to work with getting the design finalized and materials selected. Even though this was a small job compared to many that Spurlocks does, he took time to work through my ideas and make them reality. Steve was the foreman on my project and his attention to detail and quality of work was beyond expectation! He and Dave were a pleasure to work with and very careful not to disturb as much surrounding landscape as possible. Anything that needed to be moved was carefully dug up and put back. They also rebuilt a boulder retaining wall around the front bed and it looks great as well. Steve went above and beyond to bring just the right type of boulders to rebuild the wall and steps that I didn't even know I needed. I even saw Dave pick up a weed pile near the new walk (that I had left behind myself!) just to leave everything looking really nice! As I mentioned above, this was a small job but I could tell their commitment to quality and service was the same. I am delighted with the outcome and highly recommended working with Spurlocks!

They truly cared about how the project progressed, whether we were satisfied, and what they could do to make our project and experience better. My experience from the beginning until the end, was outstanding! I worked with Jeff Piper direct, and he organized and communicated with me throughout the project. When the team was to show up at 8 a.m., they were alway there before 8 a.m. It is very challenging today to find a company that follows through on every detail 100%. Hats off to this team! My new bluestone patio looks beautiful, and the repair and replacement of the bluestone to the steps on the front porch turned out fantastic. I highly recommend Spurlock, and I will continue to work with them on all of my outdoor projects.

Spurlocks did a fantastic job on our hardscape project. They built several multilevel boulder wall beds, corrected serious drainage issues that affected our landscaping, and transformed our crumbling retaining walls. Their team was professional, very hard working, and most of all, worked collaboratively with us to make mid-course corrections when needed. Derek, who had done a large scale hardscape/landscape project around our pool some 20 years ago and has done a few smaller projects since, was asked to design and install a new patio and pizza oven on the opposite side of our pool. The design is perfect and now ties seamlessly into our existing pool side patio and brings everything to the same level. The design evolved, to the better, and we couldn’t be happier with the end result. The design and quality are second to none! His entire crew was professional and they all possess craftsmanship skills. There’s no one better out there!!

Derek and his team exceeded our expectations when they installed a beautiful brick paver patio at our lakefront home in Waterford. Derek created an amazing design, the workmanship was impeccable, the tradesmen were professional and friendly, and they cleaned up thoroughly. They were able to start the job early, and it was actually completed on the day it was scheduled to begin! The tradesmen worked long, hard hours, and completed the job in less than a week. We had stonework done as well as a brick sitting wall around our newly installed pool the team was hard working, professional and provided excellent workmanship. Derek kept us informed as to when the project would begin. He was honest and communicated often. Spurlock also worked with our landscaper and altered plans to meet our needs. Overall Spurlock Natural Stone and Brick was fantastic. We plan to use them again for our front yard. Highly recommended.

Derek Spurlock’s work is amazing. He has done two large jobs at our home. He’s on time, clean, and professional. His ideas and execution are beautiful well thought out and natural. He is very busy and worth the wait. I waited seven months To get on his schedule. I can’t say enough good things about him. You will be amazed at the finished product.

Derek and his team completed a walkway and raised patio along with a cedar arbor for us in June 2019. The quality and workmanship of the finished project was outstanding, and it looks gorgeous! That should be the goal of any project, but I think some additional details about Derek and his talented crew are also worth noting. Initially our request was to add on to an existing paver sidewalk and perhaps add a smaller patio area off a deck that was being going to be built by another firm with composite products. Even though the sidewalk and patio were a small project he never said he wasn’t interested as two other firms did (the carpentry arm of his firm also builds decks and Derek never tried to sell us their services as since he knew we already had selected someone for that). Spurlock Stone does some rather large residential and commercial projects for landscape designers and architects and we immediately felt our small project mattered just as much even though we were coordinating it on our own. We promptly received a competitive quote. Then we got to wondering why not scrap the deck that was supposed to be built late fall and have him build us a raised patio the following spring instead? Derek and Jason created a great design. So, the proposed project went from small to rather large (at least to us) quickly and then back to a medium-sized project. And this is where the relationship might have gone astray, but it didn’t. We changed our budget and minds at least three times over the course of the project before it started. We were not exactly good customers in this regard. Derek never flinched. He always provided a quick quote and answered our numerous questions professionally and with patience. When it came to the construction phase, his and his crew’s professionalism shined once again. We had installed two other paver projects in our current and previous home and thought we knew what to expect out of the workers and the equipment they used. In Spurlock’s case, they brought in the right equipment to do the job quickly and correctly. That matters. No hand shoveling or trenching here (except where necessary)! Moreover, I believe that Derek not only treats his customers well, but his team too. It shows that they like working for him and take pride in their work and being involved in the creative process. These guys don’t stand around waiting for someone to tell them what to do or take it easy when Derek is checking on another job. They are seasoned pros! If you are a landscape designer or architect, know that Derek has the equipment, crew and pride to get it done right and on time. If you are a homeowner working with a landscape designer or on your own as we did, you can be assured you will be treated with respect, experience excellent communication and have a great looking, well-built project.

In 2003/2004 Derek build a brick porch and installed a 22-foot flagstone walkway at my house. 15 years ago you could see the guy had talent and loved what he was doing. It's easy to see why his business has prospered - with time he has become the best.

We recently had the opportunity to bid out the construction of our entrance sign for our homeowners Association. The project included the removal of the old entrance sign , install the footing and construction of a limestone and natural stone 12 feet by 6 feet tall new entrance sign. The complete job included the haul away of old material and also purchase of the natural stone and limestone and sandblasting of the artwork . The homeowners association reviewed 4 contractors and selected Spurlocks to complete the work. Our experience with Derek the owner was professional along with exceeding our expectations with the finished product. Derek completed the work in the timeframe he proposed and we were extremely satisfied with his crew and his professionalism. We would definitely hire Derek for any additional work.

We knew we wanted a new patio, but had no idea what style or materials could be used. When Derek Spurlock first came over, he not only offered his ideas, but also recommended a stone company in the area to visit, so we could see examples of what was available. He also gave us a list of walkways and patios in our area which he had don, so that we could see his work. There was never any rush or pressure to make a decision. When we did make a choice, Derek worked out a perfect design for our patio. He checked on every step of the process and made any changes that we wanted. His work crew was outstanding. They were polite and professional throughout the installation of the patio. We are extremely pleased with our patio and would highly recommend Derek Spurlock

Derek and crew just finished a project at my house. Here are my honest thoughts- - I am not one to trust easily and I need to be won over. Derek and his crew blew me away. They care, they work hard, they recommend what is best for you and maybe not what is the most profitable, and they fret about the details. In short, they treat your home like it was their own. - Wes= Stone God. Steve= great at stone steps. Jason= woodworker specialist. All three great at what they do- because they care. Throwback to the days of craftsmen. Don't want to leave anybody out either as there were others here who did great work too with Wes, Steve and Jason- just that I interacted most with them. - Goldner, Walsh and Amy are a great team to come in and do softscape as well. Jim was great as crew leader. - Precision Irrigation- Joe is such a good guy and another in the line of quality craftsmen Derek brings on. My only tip- the plumber was not in coordination with the other craftsmen. But to Derek credit, he made it right and Jason came back out to re-do some of the work plumber wrecked even though it wasn't Jason and Derek fault. Kudos- would use them again in a heartbeat.

He took on a difficult project with aggressive timing requirements and he never missed on his commitments on quality or time to complete each phase of work. His whole Team were professional and qualified. I highly recommend Derek Spurlock.

Derek did an exceptional job on my new tumbled slate patio. The design he came up with was fantastic and the price was very competitive. Both Derek and his crew were extremely professional with great attention to detail. The addition of a slate counter with bar sink and barn beam posts really made this a stand-out. I've had 2 paver patio's & 1 bluestone porch installed by Spurlocks Natural Stone & Brick Paving. I have been very pleased with the integrity of the construction over time. My company specializes in maintenance cleaning & sealing of exterior surfaces including brick pavers. I often see paver & stone installations that fall apart quickly or require re-leveling & repairs in a short period of time, due to inferior construction. Spurlocks installations have stood the test of time & not required any re-leveling or repairs because the a large amount of base material & compacting. These guys do not mess around. They were here from sun up to sun down. They are hard workers and very professional. The job drops jaws. They installed a stone patio, built walls, a stream and several pergolas. It transformed the look of our building. I would highly recommend this company for your next stone or landscaping project!

I was introduced to Derek Spurlock by our local nursery, after we had some major lawn damage, due to a well dig issue. We had previously committed our home to a Garden Walk s part of a fund raiser, and we needed swift action. Derek and his crew came in and created a stone path and garden that wowed the 100 plus people that were on the tour. I then challenged Derek to repair an existing pergola and patio, and after close examination, he determined that the existing foundation wasn't adequate to support the loads. This was later confirmed by a foundation expert, so we decided to rebuild the entire patio, enlarging it and adding an 18 foot tall wood burning fireplace. Derek and his team came up with excellent design proposals, built a foundation that will outlast anyone reading this article, and built an absolute show piece on our property. His team arrived on time every day and the work was both started and completed on schedule (6 week job). The property was kept clean, free of litter and they even brought their own outhouse ! Spurlock's team also came up with many architectural features to the area around the fireplace and patio by creating a tiered set of gardens and a pathway leading down to the ravine behind our home. I could go on, but I will finish and say that the experience with this company has been second to none. I would recommend him and his team to anyone who appreciates quality and craftsmanship in their home. I look forward to working with them again as we continue to enhance our home and property.
