David Nelson & Associates, LLC (DNA) is a design firm that specializes in sustainable design and architectural lighting projects. Through integrated design, analysis and modeling, DNA works with other design team members and specialists to develop environmentally responsible lighting solutions that are beautiful, affordable and save on energy and maintenance. David Nelson, AIA, IALD, is principal and founder of DNA and oversees the firm’s design work. David has been responsible for the lighting design of many published and award winning projects. He is a specialist in luminaire design and lighting controls. He is an Engineer and Registered Architect and a former member of the American Institute of Architects’ National Committee on the Environment Advisory Group. David is also a professional member of the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) and serves on both the IALD Sustainable Design Committee and the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America’s (IESNA) Sustainable Design Recommended Practice Committee. He is a LEED Accredited Professional and is a member of the Technical Advisory Group staff for the US Green Building Council’s LEED Green Building Rating System. He has worked extensively with the LEED Sustainable Sites and Indoor Environmental Quality groups and has participated in the design of many LEED projects, including many projects that have been awarded the highest “Platinum” certification. Brennan Schumacher is principal at DNA. Brennan is a specialist in lighting controls and energy efficiency. Brennan provides design services through 3D modeling, lighting calculations and energy analysis for the firm. Brennan is a LEED Accredited Professional and has authored three books on green building and the LEED Rating System. He developed and continues to teach courses in the Fundamentals of Green Building and how these practices relate to the LEED Rating System. These courses have been taught to universities, public and private agencies and have helped thousands of individuals become LEED Accredited. Brennan was an organizing member of the Colorado Chapter of the US Green Building Council. Brennan worked on the Education Committee and chaired the LEED Subcommittee. He has facilitated the LEED certification process and provided lighting design for many projects achieving all levels of LEED Certification.
