David Mac Interior Design

I have had an over a decade-long association with David of David Mac Interior Design - I have come back to David for three of my homes, and he has worked with me from being single in my own apartment, to my next home in my newly married life and most recently our next home with our three year daughter. David has been an excellent collaborator and has focussed on truly trying to understand not just our needs, but also our values and personality and incorporated that into his work so we really love the spaces we are living in. He worked with my very small budget for my first home and put a lot of attention into the final finishes of furnishings and colour to give the edgy effect I was then looking for. With my second home (and a slightly bigger budget) David really created the sanctuary we were looking for with our hectic lives and busy jobs - we just could not believe how the right mix of colours and furnishings could effect our mood and well-being so significantly - he also made sure that all design decisions would accommodate a future little one! For our final and their home - we were just ready to hand over everything to Dave - we just had implicit trust that he would work his magic! and he did. Again, the style of our house changed again, reflecting our more adventurous tastes and openness to new styling (perhaps an effect of aging!). David suggested interesting mixes of patterns and colours that we just love and furniture that looks tribally wonderful in our house - but is highly resilient to the effects of our 3yo daughter and 6 months old puppy! In particular, we asked David to design a completely new colour palette for the exterior of our new 1907 Federation home! - we still have people stop us in the street saying how much they like our house and the colours chosen – Professor Rebekah Brown

We live in a beautiful old bank building (c1860s), in an historical country town, that we had renovated. It's an amazing space. Just one problem - it's never been finished. As lovely as it is it doesn't reflect our personal style or feel like a home. We run multiple businesses and are fairly busy people so the thought of spending our leisure time shopping really wasn't all that appealing and when we did we could never find the right item. Thank God for David McMullen. I never imagined the process of finishing could be so easy! David took the time to conduct a site visit in our home, to get a feel for our personal style and how we live. We gave him a simple brief - place our art collection and make the space feel like a home! The options for furnishings he presented to us were fabulous and innovative and things we would never have envisioned or have found ourselves. The irony was we didn't need much to finish the place, but we couldn't manage to do this ourselves. David's advice on where to hang our art collection on the bare walls, the addition of a few chairs, some beautiful hand-made cushions, a few hand-made rugs & throws, a few pieces of furniture and a lot of styling have made the process effortless. Not only did he help us choose all of these pieces, but to have someone purchase and then install them was priceless. His style and flair have resulted in David taking our beautiful apartment and made it a fabulous place. We are thrilled with the result. David has been an absolute joy to have working along side us, as we have sort to bring to life a 100 year old home requiring lots of love. He's always been attentive to our style and budget and worked so hard to present the best options for us. He is very approachable, warm, organised and generous with his time. He has helped us with drapes, blinds, colours for painting (externally and internally), carpet, furniture, lights, artwork, cushions and placement of furniture. His client's satisfaction with the outcome of a job is his utmost priority and he is a delight to recommend to anyone.

We asked David to do the interior decorating for our new holiday house in Mt Martha. We are absolutely thrilled with the result. It has the relaxed, casual feel that we requested but with a style and flair we had not envisioned. David collaborated easily and professionally with both our builder in the design of built in furniture for the study, and with our preferred gallery in the selection of artwork. Although we love everything David achieved with our home, a wing backed chair in the study and chaise lounge in our bedroom have become our very favourite pieces of furniture. Without David's help we would never have even considered them as options. We cannot thank him enough for having converted our house into the home that we just love and where we love spending time.
