Kat Everett Colour Styling advised on and selected all the colour schemes for the internal and external restoration and refurbishment of the three-storey heritage listed Centrepoint Arcade in the New South Wales Central West regional town of Orange.
Much care needed to be taken to ensure that the colour schemes chosen were authentic to the Victorian era and sympathetic to the history of the 1876 building. But being internally a large commercial office building, with government tenants, it thus needed to meet an almost impossible agenda of blending the historic old with the 21st century new. In this regard the expertise and experience of Kat Everett came to the fore. Colour blends were carefully chosen and mixed and then trialled on selected areas of the building and in various lights from incandescent to fluorescent. As the building was illuminated externally at night this also needed to be considered in the colours chosen. She liaised with and worked in association with the regional heritage architect and Orange City Council's heritage officer to ensure they were in support of her recommendations and they endorsed her proposals without amendment. The result was an almost miraculous change from what was, at the time of purchase, a tired and neglected building to one that is now regarded as one of the city's heritage icons.
In 2012 the building won the National Trust of NSW, Orange Cultural Heritage Award for the "Best Heritage Treatment to a Commercial Building". That award would not have been possible without the advice, sympathetic understanding and skill of Kat Everett Colour Styling.
Subsequently she has undertaken several other major, and equally successful, commissions for our company including a group of three adjoining two-storey retail and commercial buildings, again in Orange, plus a two and three storey 1932 Californian Bungalow home of the Arts and Crafts period, owned by one of our directors, plus a two-storey home of one of the directors sons.
We have no hesitation in recommending Kat Everett Colour Styling for small, medium or large projects as her understanding of the nuances of colour, and its application to various areas, is extremely knowledgeable and successfully blends the needs and appearance of a building whilst acknowledging the practicality of the end use.
