christian is an artist and visionary. when we bought our home in mill valley, i knew christian would be able to take the bones of a beautiful aged property and turn it into something magnificent. there were many challenges, but he solved each one in a way that was functional and beautiful. i appreciate that christian does not have one set style - he ensures that each design is appropriate to the home and the setting. christian and his team are so easy to work with and responsive - and his sidekick zoe the corgi made every visit fun! we could not be more thrilled with the experience we had with CD design and give them our highest recommendation.

I found Christian after seeing another project he’s done on Instagram, I loved how adaptable his design skill was and when he agreed to work with me I was so lucky. From day one he understood what we wanted and was able to quickly make changes when our construction needs changed. Our front and backyards are extraordinary and I can’t express how fantastic Christian’s design skill are, he’s a true gem!! I highly recommend Christian Douglas Design and hope to work together again next year on a wine country home.

We recently moved into a new house with a yard that had been neglected for years. Our hope was to create outdoor "rooms" to connect to nature. Christian was recommended and the rest is history. As I look out my window at roses climbing over a moon gate and beyond to blueberries, lemons, plums, limes, pears, apples and more thriving in my yard, I cannot think of enough adjectives to describe how happy we are with the magic he created. A slow trickling water wall adds a beautiful sound backdrop to yard-facing rooms, an outdoor dining area is tucked under an overhanging tree - the whole yard looks like the best outdoor spa you could imagine! If all of that were not enough, working with Christian is just fun and inspiring. He is obviously deeply dedicated to his clients and making sure projects truly capture what clients want. I wish I had another yard so we could create another space together. thank you Christian and team!

I was overjoyed to find Christian and work with him on a project in Marin involving a long, narrow entrance and several small garden areas. The project presented a number of challenges, and Christian expertly worked his way through these. Christian's professionalism, intelligence, and warmth were on display throughout the project. He selected the perfect specimens for the 1910 home in a redwood-filled hamlet and worked with a skilled builder to create ideal hardscape updates. The upgrade was significant, but fits so perfectly that it has the charming “old world” appearance of having been in place for many years. I could not be happier with the result and could not give a stronger recommendation for Christian!

Christian designed our back and front yards. We wanted a lot of different uses in a relatively small space and he was able to provide that with a design that felt spacious and restrained. He was easy to work with and a good communicator. We recommend him whole-heartedly!

I asked for enchantment. For a landscape design + gardens that would transport me every time I walked out my door. And that is what Christian delivered. It is a property that was quite ordinary. A yard. Lots of rocks. Nothing of interest or note. As word has spread, people from miles around come by to visit and see the magical grounds + gardens. Gardens filled to the brim with gardenias + lavender + olive trees, figs, lemons, limes, blueberry bushes. And a Chef's garden growing the delights of each season-kale, eggplant, cucumber, garlic, tomatoes, potatoes, carrots, celery, radishes, beans, strawberries + and a cutting garden that fills my vases each week. All designed by Christian Douglas.

We have thoroughly enjoyed our experience with Christian and have been blown away by the way he's been able to create the space we had always dreamed of. From the start I could tell he was the one who could transform our space in to the garden we knew it could be. He is professional, kind, always on time, beyond knowledgable, a true master of his craft. He infused his enthusiasm and love of gardens, nature and design and produced something remarkable. While our backyard/garden project is close to complete he is still right there helping us fine tune bits and pieces and I have a feeling he will be a part of this garden for years to come. Oh, and since the backyard was such a huge success we've begun planning for a front yard project with him. He is that good!

We loved working with Christian on the design of our backyard, and look forward to working on the front! We started with a giant blank canvas and were totally overwhelmed by the project so we looked to work with someone creative and professional and capable of getting it done. Christian is those things and more! He was excited about the project and took the time to get to know our vision for the space. When working with contractors to get bids, we appreciated his cool and professional style-he really represented our interests and was conscious of our budget, time, ideas etc while working through the build plans. We just completed a front yard transformation project with Christian and are beyond impressed with the final results. We seriously cannot recommend him enough! From our very first exploratory conversation with Christian through the finishing touches at the end of the project, Christian's professionalism, creativity, design knowledge, project management skills and attention to detail far exceeded our every expectation. His design concept transformed a tired lawn with concrete hardscape into a stunning entry to our home, complete with custom stone masonry, water feature and gorgeous plantings. Not only is Christian Douglas a 5 star landscape architect, he is a 5 star human being. After spending 2 years building a new home in Mill Valley, we spent months searching for the right landscape architect before finding Christian Douglas. The design and style of his website was enough to get us excited about his work, but after reading more about his unique approach and then meeting Christian in person, we knew we had found the right person hands down. Christian spent countless hours at the house just being on the property in order to get a sense and feel for what may be best for the land and our needs, both practically and aesthetically. Christian is professional, passionate, creative and thoughtful with his approach and equally important, treated us with respect, patience and open-mindedness. Upon our first meeting with Christian, we noticed how well he listened to our needs and wishes. We had a very rough idea of what we wanted to accomplish and with Christian's vision and experience, were able to get it done. One thing that really stood out was that the experience with him felt like a partnership where we could exchange ideas and talk through the right approach, rather than being told what to do. We determined early on that it would be a multi-step process that would take months, if not years to complete and Christian never pushed us to get it done sooner, but rather helped to lay out a long-term plan that would allow us to complete it over time. His staff were also conscientious, friendly and caring. This was clearly expressed in the high quality of their work. And importantly, they kept the work site clean at the end of each day so that you never knew they were there. We are fortunate to still be able to see and talk with Christian frequently. He stops by the house periodically to check in on the irrigation system and condition of all the plants and will even meet with the gardener over the weekend to make sure he understands his role in keeping the garden in great shape which we very much appreciate. We are over and beyond delighted with our landscaping project and would highly recommend Christian to anyone for his diligence, deep care and amazing eye for detail. Chris and Rena Chase
