Cathie Hong Interiors

Notes about our project: - 1957 Eichler in San Mateo Highlands - Kitchen, two bathrooms, and laundry room. Been trying to think of what could be said that hasn't been said already. Cathie and her team have our highest recommendation. Working with a 70 year old home certainly came with its surprises and then we threw in our own surprises by changing the scope (twice-ish). We would hire Cathie's team again and again, if we had the opportunity. She is all that others have already said, her work is published in every design magazine you care about, and her team has a chemistry that will make you want to quit your job and join them; they're nailing it on a daily basis. If she'll take your project, take the opportunity and then don't run off and hire the cheapest GC you can find.

For our first major remodel, we feel grateful to have had Cathie's expertise with the design and construction process. We were so impressed and pleased with her insightful design of the hall and main bathrooms and how she masterfully incorporated our requests and own personal style into the final product. Just as important, we found her to be a pleasure to work with and appreciate her patience, prompt responses, and ability to clearly communicate with the contractors. We would definitely call upon Cathie again for our next project.

We had the pleasure of working with Cathie for our full gut remodel for our home and we absolutely loved working with her and her team. Everything they selected for our home was beautiful and thoughtfully put together, taking into account our personal style / preferences, lifestyle, and budget. Her team is always on top of all the small details and they are very responsive if any questions came up. She was very patient with us as I had no desire to decide which shade of white or blue was best and we truly trusted her decisions every step of the way. She was also firm enough to tell you no when your choices didn't align with her design aesthetic (but she says it with the sweetest smile!). :) She designed some built in cabinetry for an awkward space in our home and made my dreams come true by marrying mid-century / japandi aesthetic with some Asian rattan details. She was always up for a challenge and miraculously made a split bath (our sink had to be moved to the hallway due to planning / permitting issues with SF) look beautiful instead of awkward. We don't have a big house like most of her recent projects in the South Bay, but she made what we have so beautiful. Wish there was a way to vote for 6 stars. 11/10 would highly recommend working with her on your project. We already miss working with her!

Cathie is the best of the best! We own a 1990s builder grade home that was in desperate need of a modern refresh. Cathie worked her magic to turn three bathrooms, a family room, laundry room, entryway, and 2nd floor landing into a modern home we absolutely love. She brings form and function to the design and pays great attention to detail -- a quality you need when working with so many moving parts and vendors. Cathie was always professional and patient with our questions. We were blown away with her project plans and presentations from our very first project scope meeting, to the design plan and materials presentation. You'll be in awe of her hand drawn sketches! We valued her opinion with all the decisions we made and gave her freedom to design as much as we could. In fact, my only regret is not going with ALL her primary preferences. As challenging as a remodel may be, we trusted Cathie every step of the way and knew our project would be worth it in the end. It was worth it and so much more! We can't wait to work with Cathie Hong Interiors again in a few years to finish up the rest of our home. We'll be sure to give her freedom to design the kitchen! Cathie Hong is the BEST! Her design aesthetic and attention to detail is top notch. She is extremely professional and knowledgable about the construction process. Above all, she cares so much about helping her customers build the home that THEY want by working alongside them and listening well. She literally spent an entire afternoon with me designing a dry lay for our full wall kitchen tile to get it just right. We were aiming for something artistic and whimsical, not standard, and she nailed it! We love our new kitchen! As an an individual, she's super sweet and just a pleasure to work with. Working with Cathie was a wonderful experience from beginning to end. She is incredibly talented and always effortlessly able to balance design with function, guidance or detailed curation, and your personal style with innovative fresh ideas. However you need Cathie to be involved in creating your space into a beautiful sanctuary, she is your biggest advocate in making your project a success. Cathie helped us with multiple rooms in our home (all of which came out spectacular!) - but what stood out to me the most was her design for the kitchen. What I thought was a challenging space being relatively small with restrictions/limited layout options, Cathie transformed it to be airy, open and inviting - it felt like twice the size! Her sourcing selections are truly impeccable and it made all the difference. I'm beyond grateful to have worked with her, the house is everything I could have ever hoped for and more. I wouldn't hesitate to hire Cathie again for future projects, she's truly the best!

I know Cathie through church and had always appreciated her style and creativity from a far. So I was super excited to be able to work with her on the remodel of my midcentury home. She helped redesign the kitchen, 2 baths and furnish my living/dining space and main bedroom. I was so grateful for Cathie for her help from the very beginning to the end of the remodel and I couldn't be happier with the results. While I definitely appreciate aesthetically pleasing things, it's a bit of a conundrum for me to put that together on my own. Cathie took my eclectic mish mash of styles from my pinterest board and helped create a cohesive design and feel to my home that perfectly matched what I was hoping for. So. Magical. I'm so thankful for her expert guidance through the remodel process, her thoughtfully sourced materials and furnishings, and her fantastic communication and navigation through all the bumps along the way (and you will have those!). Such a pleasure to work with, totally brought fun and excitement to my remodel! 10/10 would hire her again for future projects!

Cathie helped us completely transform our home and we couldn't be happier with the results or the process. She designed our kitchen and bathroom renovations as well as a living room and a den, giving each space its own look and feel but tying them all together cohesively. With her impeccable taste and fantastic resources she was able to create an environment for us that's not only beautiful but really feels like it reflects who we are and how we live. She always kept our needs and preferences in mind and was incredibly responsive and available any time we needed her. When my husband and I got married 10 years ago, we were eager to remodel our home to increase living space but forgot to add enough storage in the process. 10 years passed, we accumulated quite a lot of stuffs raising two kids and got tired of our mismatched furniture. I have been looking for an interior designer for a long time to solve the problem but cannot find one with portfolios that I could say "I want that" until I saw Cathie's. She took out her drawing tool and sketched out 4 big storage during our first meeting after hearing our problem. These 4 big costumed cabinets turned out not only providing enough storage for our entry area, living space and dining area, they transformed the whole great room into a beautiful, stylish, calm great room which I thought only exist in magazines! She continued to update our kitchen from farmhouse style to Scandinavian to match the rest of the great room. When it comes to purchasing, we always ask her to source because every piece that she chose with her great aesthetic sense just seem to upgrade the room even more. We couldn't be happier! The problem now is I am no longer motivated to chill out in coffee shops or vacationing because I cannot convinced myself to spend money staying in places not as beautiful as my own.

We originally had a one room project in mind that blossomed into doing an additional home office and a whole new kitchen reno after we had an unexpected leak. Cathie was awesome in adjusting to the changes and patient as we worked through the designs and made our selections. The final outcome was light years better than what we started with and we continue to get compliments on the work years after it was completed. The design completely changed the feel of our home and made it an even more inviting place that our family wants to be in. We recommend Cathie wholeheartedly and are very grateful to have had the privilege to work with her!

Cathie helped me furnish a nursery and my master bedroom and both rooms turned out phenomenal. I feel like I'm walking into a five star luxury hotel room every time I walk into my master bedroom, actually it's better because it's my own home to my preferences! It's an amazing feeling to have such a nice space to relax and enjoy, especially during COVID when we spend so much time in our home. It was so easy working with Cathie from the start. She flew out to the Seattle area to scope out the project and do all the measurements as well as lay out what she envisioned for us. She asked lots of questions to get a good sense of our style and always sourced multiple options for our furnishings. She has an amazing sense of style that is adaptable to each client's needs and always found the most awesome pieces for us to choose from. I always looked forward to her emails and source lists! Speaking of communication, she was always prompt and easy to reach for feedback via email or text. Even though she completed this project completely remote, she was able to provide lots of support along the way and checked in on us throughout. She really transformed our space and was so patient with us even when we were hesitant to go with her suggestions at first. We are so glad we did! We hope to work with her again in the future, especially if we have a larger project someday!
