I am a professional woodworker and have collaborated with Von Dreele-Freerksen on several projects. Most notably, re-creating a suite of living room furniture for Frank Lloyd Wright's Beachy house in Oak Park. They are interested having the job done properly, and appreciate the time and effort that can take, from research to final finish. They care about the projects they are involved with, and it shows.

This is the second project VDF has done in our home. Their work is excellent. Their employees and subcontractors were always clean and efficient. They answered all of our questions and made good suggestions that improved the out come greatly. We are already planning another project for them.

They converted a 1960's rancher to a lovely redone interior with my bedroom, bath, closet, office upstairs- my own suite and redid the original 3 bedrooms 2 baths to my guest suite. Over the years we have done more work, including solar panels in addition to the geothermal done before I moved in. They are easy to work with and very responsive to my requests. VDF and Prairie Plus installed a powder room for us in a former first floor butlers staircase, at the same time they significantly updated the second floor bath and refitted plumbing throughout the home (to later install a third floor bath/master suite, and to support a forthcoming kitchen renovation, both designs also entrusted to them). Subsequently, they have outfitted our home with HVAC. They are truly subject matter experts; they "read" a home and offer thoughtful suggestions and rationale regarding structure, design, and service. They are readily available to answer questions and dialogue around project ideas. In the event that something goes unexpectedly, a timely solution is delivered, never were we "left hanging" without a vital service in tact. Their staff and subcontractors are friendly, professional, and tidy; we are always pleased to have them around, and never have felt "imposed upon." Von-Dreele-Freerksen renovated a 2400 square-foot, vintage apartment which had not been updated for 40 years. Their design team created drawings for the kitchen, butler's pantry, library, dining room and fireplace mantel piece. Their project manager/carpenter oversaw the project in a timely manner and careful attention to detail. Their sub-contractors were excellent. We celebrated the completion by giving the first party in our new home for the Von Dreele-Freerksen, the design team, and all the workmen.

VDR remodeled my kitchen replacing all the cabinets and counter tops and appliances, refinishing the oak floors, installing a new wet bar, and expanding my storage space with additional cabinets. The project was finished on time and on budget. The work site was cleaned every day. My alternative kitchen functioned effectively. Any concerns I had were addressed immediately. All the workers were professional and pleasant to deal with. The workmanship and materials were of highest quality.

I'm an architect and have completed numerous projects with Von Dreele-Freerksen. They are fully committed to quality, are honest, and are experts at renovation and restoration of vintage houses. They understand design, and are as comfortable in a mid-century house as a Frank Lloyd Wright or E. E. Roberts. Since all the craftsmen they hire are of the finest caliber, they are not cheap, but nor are they inflated; their initial budget projections typically are very realistic, never "lowball." The important thing to know is that when they are done, the new work will seamlessly tie in to the old, and the work will last.
