I’ve had Burkhardt for 10 years. They service has always been excellent, and last year I chose them to install a new HVAC unit. They stand behind their work and offer fair pricing.

I've had Burkhardt for 20 years as my hvac company for annual tuneups of the boiler. Overall, I've had good service. However, last time I called, the office person said they had no record of me on file as a past customer. I waited 3 hours for the service person's arrival during the 4 hour time frame given and finally called to see when they'd come. The office girl checked and said they would not be coming and I needed to reschedule. I was told they left me messages on my phone. Neither landline nor cell had any message, but the girl was insistent and unapologetic. When the guys came, they did the job and I'm good again. This recent event was my only concern over the years.

I don't normally write reviews, but this company was so terrible! They made it sound like they were doing me a favor by agreeing to work on my house (Jessica on the phone said - "We're losing money by taking on this job, but we'll do it anyway.") They told me this one week before my renovation project started. Eventually, they called back and said they could do the work. Then on the day of the project, Dean arrived late and then messed up the job completely, placing vents on the ceiling instead of walls and neglecting to install vents in the area they promised. I called and spoke with Horse. Horse agreed to come out a second time to correct the work. I waited over an hour after the time that Horse said he would come to my house. When he did, their estimate tripled - - from $1200 to $3600. I tried to call the company but they kept putting me on hold. They couldn't find a manager for me to speak with. I would NOT recommend this company. Keep on looking!

Had to get on the waiting list, but it was worth it. The crew was skilled at their craft and professional in manner.

Spent thousands of dollars in un needed repairs. The technician and owner were very rude upon trying to rectify the situation. Very incompetent and unprofessional.

We have been using Burkhardt Heating & Air Conditioning for nearly 10 years now for our servicing needs. We were especially grateful for their prompt response during the polar vortex weather here in Wisconsin when our furnace broke down in -20 degree temperatures. Kurt, our wonderful service professional, was here within an hour of our call for service. An hour or 2 later Doug was here to go over our new furnace needs. Less than 24 hours later Jake and Tony were here to install our new furnace. We will continue to use Burkhardt Heating & Air Conditioning for all of our service needs.

I just got off the phone with the owner of Burkhardt. Needless to say I'm rattled. I'll tell my story in the hope it saves you from experiencing a similar issue. A few weeks ago I hired them to install a mini duct system in my 1924 Tosa home. They did not have the lowest bid but I decided their glowing Angie's List rating and customer reviews would mean top notch service. I'm a sticker for quality and do most of the work on my home myself so I'm happy to pay more to avoid contractor related issues. Guess I should have kept looking…
The unfortunate thing is that I am actually reasonably happy with the AC installation. The crew was timely and nice. They did a decent job cleaning up after themselves. And they finished the job on the schedule we agree to. Aside from some tweaks needed to keep even cooling between a few rooms, I am enjoying the system. However during the second day on site while I was at work, the crew moved one of my floor-standing AC units that sat under a ceiling vent they were installing. In the process it disconnected the drain tube and water from the unit soaked into my hardwood floor causing it to warp. They guys cleaned up the water but did not mention the incident to me.
I asked the crew about it when I noticed the warping later that week. They indicated it was an accident on their part which they had attempted to clean up. They also said a claim had been field with their insurance company and I would be contacted. The damage was not too bad and I was relieved it would be taken care of. After a few weeks of waiting to hear from either party, I finally put in a call to Burkhardt. Later that day I was contacted by their insurance. They asked me a few questions about the issue and then promptly denied the claim citing that 3 Burkhardt installers claimed they did not move my AC unit. Odd since the installers both admitted their mistake to me and were the only people in the house when the leak happened.
The surprising part was the response I got when I called to discuss the issue. Since the floor damage was minor I intended to ask him to take care of it despite the insurance denial. Seems reasonable to keep customers happy. I was told immediately that "We will not discuss this" and all correspondence must go through the insurance company. When I tried to make my point about taking care of it for good business sake he got pretty agitated - as did I.
Long story short - if you want a company that delivers on their customer service promise this might not be the right choice. I doubt I'll be pursuing anything further to resolve my floor issue. It’s not worth the effort to argue with an insurance company till I'm blue in the face. But I come away from this experience supremely disappointed my Burkhardt and its owner. w

Regardless, the customer’s claim was submitted to our insurance carrier. When the customer was notified by our insurance carrier that his claim was denied, he went on a cursing tirade toward the insurance agent. Immediately afterward, the homeowner called our office and demanded that I take responsibility for this warped floor. Over and over again, I told him we did take responsibility by submitting his claim to our insurance company and all correspondence regarding this matter needed to go thru them. He was persistent in demanding we pay for his misapplication of a portable air conditioning system that leaked for years and resulted in the warped floor in his living room.
I am truly thankful this homeowner submitted this report so that we could have the opportunity to respond.
