Brittney Nielsen Interior Design

We used Brittney to completely re-design the floor plan and elevation of our 1959 one-story ranch in La Jolla and she nailed it! Before our whole-house remodel, a combination of age, unfortunate flipper-inflicted design choices, and neglect had turned it into a mid-modern/Spanish/ranch amalgam that was chopped up, dysfunctional, lacked storage and had a layout that was just plain strange. Brittney's design started by removing a wall and closet that was literally in the middle of the house. Removing it opened up the whole house, and enabled us to convert the former kitchen into a dining room (complete with beautiful bay windows and built-in buffet), and family room. We gained a much more spacious and functional kitchen with ample storage and a beautiful island. Unused space in the great room became a new walk-in closet for the master. The vaulted ceilings and exposed beams stayed, while she added French doors out to the front yard and a built-in desk. In the master bedroom Brittney used the old walk-in closet to more than double the size of our formerly cramped bathroom - we now have a gorgeous bathroom with a double vanity, separate tub and shower, and a toilet closet. Bottom line - The floor plan improved the function and flow of the house tremendously. Brittney came up with a design we never would of have thought of on our own. This was not the only option she designed for us, but was the one that worked best for us. She also very expertly presented us with multiple elevations, even though we were in love with the coastal Cape Cod look and eventually went with that. She was very good at troubleshooting along the way, and given her design background, she also offered us valuable fit and finish advice, which we really appreciated. All in all, we're very pleased with our new home and could not recommend Brittney more highly to help design yours!

My husband and I used Brittney Nielsen's services during a whole house makeover 5 years ago. We thoroughly enjoyed working with her and were thrilled with the final outcome. Brittney was extremely helpful is coming up with a unifying color scheme, guiding us through innumerable design decisions, and integrating our existing furniture with new pieces. We ended up with a polished look that was warm and welcoming, and melded beautifully with our personal tastes and lifestyle. After retiring last year, we moved to a new home that had a few problem areas including a very dark and dreary living room/dining room area. We called in Brittney and she quickly gave us some creative solutions that have completely transformed the space. We absolutely loved Brittney's design approach. She provided just as much or as little assistance as we needed at different points during our projects. Often she would give us a good starting concept, we would do our own shopping, and then she would help us sort through the various options we came up with. Other times, she suggested furniture or materials that dramatically punched up the look of a room -- without breaking the bank. Our meetings together were always highly collaborative, productive and loads of fun. We can wholeheartedly recommend her!

Brittney was so easy to work with, a true professional. She worked closely with her client to bring fresh ideas and colors to us to create beautiful custom entry medallions, one for the foyer and one for the entry to the master bedroom. We also worked together to create a lovely stone centerpiece design for the master shower wall and a coordinating border to carry the look through the remainder of the master bath.

Recently I had the privilege of working with Brittney on a renovation project at my home. She is not only extremely talented but is also a pleasure to work with. She has a keen eye for the unusual and her high standards made my project stand out and end up being even better than I expected. We learned about Brittney Nielson through DirectBuy. The 1st day we met we instantly knew that she would be the one to help decorate both of our homes! We subsequently sold both of those homes and replaced them with 2 others. Again Brittney was instrumental with picking out the paint colors and decorating. She very respectful, has wonderful ideas, is very detailed oriented and responsive and extremely fair on her pricing. We recommended her to some friends who decided to remodel their home and they raved about Brittney as well! I was referred to Brittney from the former owner of my company who loved her work. We have worked together remodeling every room in my home for the past 1 1/2 years. I have seen 3 contractors come and go in that time but it is she who continues to be focused, time conscience and also positive as our designer. She was very easy to get in touch with and always kept her appointments. Her knowledge for what a client "wants" is spot on even when I kept her guessing she sent me ideas. Brittney has worked on 2 projects for me. First on our home in Olivenhain and later on our beach condo in Solana Beach. At our home we were doing an addition and had so many unanswered questions. Brittney saved us from many costly and permanent mistakes. She saves us money time and again. The ceiling height from the kitchen going into a high beam great room was designed beautifully. She also handled the Spanish dark taste that my husband had and blended that well with my light and airy look. We are both happy with the result of our home. Brittney Nielsen is absolutely lovely and professional, great listener, patient, extremely knowledgeable about design from reading and editing blue prints, dealing with contractors, creating budgets, knowing where to shop for every type of product for the home and pulling it all together within a specified time period. My husband and I rebuilt a home from the studs and thanks to Brittney's ability in listening to our differing opinions and needs, my husband and I did not have one argument. She was able to resolve our differences in design and style by proposing her ideas, in which..3 years later we have no regrets about our selections. Brittney was easy to work with and she was respected by our contractors as she had demonstrated her knowledge and experience. Quite often our contractors would consult with her when many times it is the designer consulting with the contractors. Brittney is thorough when researching and locating an item, product or idea.
