Richard Bergman has been building for over 20 years. He was a design instructor at the University of Buffalo for 7 years and also built custom cabinets for the top furniture design stores. Along the way he began buying Buffalo city “fixer upper” homes and started a renovations business. By the early 1980’s Richard Bergman moved to Malibu, California and became a real estate broker with land deals in both California and Hong Kong. That experience led to an entrance into the custom home building market of Southern California. Returning to Buffalo for a Bennett High School class reunion in the late 1980’s, Richard had the good fortune to meet his wife Dorothy. They moved back to Buffalo after getting married and after several years Heartland Homes was born out of the idea to build high-quality, custom homes for people seeking to make their "Dream Houses" a reality. National Association of Home BuildersIn 1999, Richard Bergman was elected President of the Niagara Frontier Builder’s Association. Today, Heartland Homes is building some of WNY’s Finest Custom Homes. We built our first house with Richard 12 years ago. Everything went flawless except for a couple problems, but Richard was right there to resolve the issues. He spared no expense to make sure the issues were resolved properly. There will always be an issue or 2 when building a home - but its how the builder takes care of the issues that makes the difference. Richard was and still is extremely easy to work with and an extremely reasonable builder. If I were to build again, I would choose Richard over any other builder out there today as well-hands down.

I enjoyed working with Richard. He listened to me and the house he built is still my dream home. I had many ideas of my own and he was willing to work with me to incorporate my wishes. I would use/recommend him for a project.

Heartland Homes and it's heart and soul, Richard Bergman, are first class in every way. We built our home and also did several projects before that with Richard. There is no one I could trust more to care about every detail, to make sure we got the most value and at the same time, to care about building for a cleaner environment. Our new home is green certified. We are living in an elegant, progressively thought out space and paying very little for our utilities. The materials in our home are the finest from our foundation to the wood that is used to frame the house, from our windows, doors and and fixtures to the beautifully dry, spacious basement with high ceilings. We cannot praise Heartland Homes enough and highly recommend building with Richard Bergman!!!! Just mention his name in the business and high praise is all around!

Richard Bergman did our kitchen a year and a half ago. He and his crew did a fabulous job. Richard was thoughtful, creative, and did such a good job, we hired him to do an expansion on our house this year. We highly recommend him.

Richard Bergman did a great job building our home. We had a great energy star rating and our home is very energy efficient. Richard pays close attention to detail and our punch list was very small. I would highly recommend Richard to any one interested in building a new home.

When looking for a builder for our new home, our realtor suggested Richard Bergman. Richard helped us design a custom home 11 years ago. We have been very pleased with the construction of our home. Mr. Bergman selected or subcontracted highly qualify tradesmen to do the work on our home. Richard was very accommodating while building our home and continue to help us years after the completion of the house. Even to this day we call Richard and his response is always helpful and informative. If we were to build another home, I would not hesitate to contact Richard to build it.

Richard Bergman and his team of contractors built us on one beautiful home in 2000 and 15 years later we still love everything about it. Just last week our neighbors were commenting on the fact that we have never had an icicle form on our tight, well insulated, cozy home! Not a coincidence that another neighbor hired him to do a major home renovation. Richard is creative; always guiding home design decisions that work for your families unique situation, needs and preferences. He kept the construction process moving along and on time. He communicated with us regularly throughout the process and still takes our calls when we seek referrals and guidance. If we built again, it would be with Heartland Homes. Truly! Worked closely with Richard to design and co-manage our house building project. Very professional, focused and dependable. Allowed us to keep close to budgeted costs and participate as we wanted. Guided us as to using quality products and subcontractors. Kept project on schedule. Very energy conscious and driven to construct an energy efficient, star-rated house. Worked closely with subcontractors and town permit folks. Knowledgeable in all aspects of the construction and amenities.

We worked with Richard Bergman of Heartland Homes to build a modern house in downtown Buffalo a few years ago. I had heard horror stories about the problems one has building a house. We had none. Richard was a pleasure to work with and everything went smoothly. He was very professional, very knowledgable, and very easy to get along with. He and our architect worked together beautifully and Richard helped with ideas of the design as well as doing the building. This was not an easy job, as the only land we could find was a long narrow strip that had actually been part of someone's back yard, and some of the neighbors were not happy to see us building there. Richard handled every problem that came up and gave us excellent advice. Everything he did was first class, but at the same time he did not waste time or money. I would not hesitate to recommend Bergman and Heartland Homes to anyone considering building. Now that we have actually lived in the house for over five years, I am even more strongly aware of what a good job he did. The house works--and we love living in it. Finally, Richard did not disappear after the job was finished. He remained available with advice, recommendations of workmen, or whatever we needed. I recommend him highly.

When my wife and I first decided to build we attended the Buffalo Home show 4 years in a row. Each time, we split apart and looked at the homes offered. Each year we picked Richard's home as the best. Before we even had a lot, we told Richard we wanted him to build our home. Fast forward 2 years waiting for the street to be cut in the development we chose, and 15 months of building and we have the home of our dreams. Despite, or in addition to using an architect, Richard and his wife's input throughout the process was invaluable - like moving the master bedroom to the back of the house so we can enjoy the view out our windows every day! I can, without any hesitation or reservation, recommend Richard Bergman and Heartland Homes. Richard uses his own subs and therefore can choose the very best. Our home is unique and required many creative solutions. But whether it was a custom curved arts and crafts main stairway, barrel vault ceilings, curved masonary coverings of exterior walls or extraordinary oak woodwork throughout, the subs came through time and time again. Our home was a complete custom from the ground up, and Richard and his team took it all in stride! I would build again with Richard in a heartbeat and often recommend him to friends who are looking to build their own dreams!

My wife and I built a house with Heartland Homes about 8 years ago. It was the first time we had a home built, and Richard Bergman and his wife Dorthothy couldn't have been better to work with. They paid attention to every detail throughout the project. They were very accommodating, making suggestions along the way. Overall it was a very positive experiece and I would highly recommend Heartland Homes.
