Furniture Workshop

Furniture Workshop is run by Ben Bland who has over 25 years of experience in cabinet making, joinery and antique restoration. We work mainly on one off pieces or made to measure fitted furniture including kitchens, wardrobes, home offices, bookcases etc. Many of our customers have unusual or listed homes and we are happy to work with them to achieve the look they are searching for. We are happy to work on small commissions as well as larger projects. Many of our satisfied customers have returned over and again to commission more work. Due to customer demand we started to take on orders for free standing furniture as well as commissions for fitted furniture. Now this demand has grown so much that we have for many years specialised in this area, bringing fine work and craftsmanship to our customers, whatever the project, big or small. We work mainly with solid timber, all items are hand produced and hand finished with water based paints for painted furniture and oil finishes for hardwoods. We have found these finishes to be successful over the years and if looked after will give many years of service. They are also the best finishes for on -site use in the home if a project needs finishing in situ or re-finishing in years to come. Our painted furniture is made from a combination of MDF for its stability and tulipwood for its hardness and ability to take an excellent paint finish. All hardware is discussed with and or chosen by the client and should be of the best quality. The commissioning process starts with a design brief and/or consultation with an initial estimate of likely cost.In the past this has been as little as a rough sketch with dimensions, but with larger projects nowadays can involve several meetings to confirm details. Then depending on the size and complexity of the project, drawings, specifications and delivery schedule. We ask for 35% of the cost as a deposit with the balance due on delivery or installation. For larger projects we would ask for a smaller deposit followed by stage payments as agreed at the ordering stage. We are a small team (two people) so lead times on larger projects like fitted kitchens can be three to four months.
