Deck Pro

Started out great - demo of the old deck, new frame up in a day but also at a cost of 60% of the total project. 3 more work days and another 30% of the total. The posts supporting the deck are in place but the holes are only filled maybe 3/4 of concrete leaving a void for water? Another post hole dug. The landing is up and the stringers are set in place from the deck to the landing. Most of the deck boards are in place but something is out of place even to my untrained eyes. They fail to show up Wednesday after working Friday, Saturday, Monday and Tuesday. They come back Thursday and finish the decking (two boards), the second set of stairs and most of the treads plus 3 posts for the landing put in place. They failed to come back Friday. Two guys are left to finish the job (the owner said when we signed the contract it would be done Valentine Day which was Tuesday but they didn't finish until Saturday late). The owner comes out Wednesday and I show him the problem with the two halves of the deck not meeting on the same plane (maybe an eighth to a quarter of an inch difference but this is a trip hazard). I also show him the post holes have been back-filled with red clay from the holes and that the railing posts are not correct as they have two pre-drilled holes for lag screws and the top hole is an inch above the deck! So the two guys have to dig the dirt out and fill with concrete, drop a beam on one side of the divide so that both sides will line up with the transition piece. They were supposed to drill a new hole in each post for a lag screw which they forgot about until late Saturday evening when I reminded them about that. The joins between railings and posts were very amateurish, there were some cracks in key places, a big void in one of the posts, the lag screw hole they had to put in were inconsistent and sloppy, and several other flaws. We paid them just to get them to go away. The owner called and said he would be out two days ago. I haven't seen him come out nor heard from him since that last call.

They did a great job on our front steps, and we are happy with all the work. They also did our back deck about 6 years ago.
