Aspen Homes

We chose Aspen Homes to build our custom home and decided that it was important to share our opinion regarding our unpleasant journey. Before hiring Aspen we looked for negative online reviews and found none. In retrospect, we should have paid more attention to the references we called, since they were lukewarm. The entire build with Aspen Homes was a struggle. In six months’ time, we had four different construction supervisors, due to them either being fired or quitting. Given the lack of communication between the departing supervisors, it wasn’t surprising that at the end of the build there were several remaining expensive construction defects. After meeting several times with the owner, Todd Stam, to discuss the issues, we received an email informing us that Aspen was accepting no responsibility for the defects and repairs, which they said were going to be entirely our responsibility. There was no final meeting, no phone call, just an email. We were stunned at the lack of professionalism. Ultimately, we arranged for the defects to be fixed by subcontractors without Aspen’s help. Only after hiring an attorney and threatening legal action, did we receive partial compensation from Aspen Homes. This made for a very frustrating and unsatisfactory ending to an expensive build. Given how Aspen Home chose to deal with our construction defects, it is our opinion they are a business that lacks integrity, quickly blames others, and is not trustworthy. Therefore, we would never recommend them as a general contractor for a custom home.

This is a wonderful builder. They attended to our every question & concern and kept it on budget and on schedule.

We have been a supplier of Aspen Homes since 2001. Our latest project with them was at 3676 W. Ceila Crt in Coeur d'Alene, ID. We installed a beautiful 9X8 Mahogany Steel door with windows. Aspen Homes puts very unique designs in their homes, always making the extra special effort. Top quality and great to work with.

Every tradesman that was used was extremely knowledgeable about his trade and how it would effect the other trades. We were blessed with responsible and respectful workers. They were considerate to my wife and I and well as each other. We had minimal change orders as most bases were covered, but when we did they were very easily fit into the program. Would recommend everyone at Aspen Homes from the in house crew to everyone at the job site. A lot of prayer has gone into this project. My wife and I enjoyed our experience having Aspen Homes as our builder. Todd and Joe Coulter worked collaboratively with us to develop the design for our dream home. Once construction commenced, Cameron Peterson was a great project superintendent. He was great to deal with and kept us well informed during the construction process. The quality of our finished home was beyond our expectations. Our building site was on a tight, sloped lot that didn't have a lot of room to work, but the site construction was well managed. Zwinger Excavating did an excellent job working in the tight confines and their finished landscaping using large basalt boulders for the retaining walls turned out beautifully. Aspen Homes came highly recommended. From start to finish, everyone there was courteous, respectful, and patient. They stayed within our budget and were flexible every time we changed our minds during construction. Even at the conclusion of our project, the follow-up on punch list issues was handled with timely professionalism. We received "Friday updates" containing lists of steps completed and those on tap for the following week, with photographs. I was such fun to watch the birth of our new home. Working with Aspen helped us feel more comfortable in our new environment.

I got to know Todd Stam and his company Aspen Homes when I worked at the local newspaper. I had toured Aspen Homes a number of times for photography assignments and was always impressed by the quality and attention to detail. When it came time to purchase a new home after selling my first, I knew I wanted a higher quality home than my first investment. But didn't think I could afford an Aspen Home. Once my realtor set up a consultation with Aspen, I was blown away by the quality customer service and how much home I got for the money. My home isn't a "custom home" by any means, but the Aspen Homes crew made me feel like I was building a custom home. I had meetings with interior and exterior designers. I was presented with so many options for everything from lighting fixtures and cabinets, to the flooring and paint codes for the walls, trim and stain selections for the natural wood accents. They even provided me with access to a client interface where I could see images of the progress of the build, see my selections and once the home was done, I had access to contractors and staff for any follow-up work or questions I had. I'm happy with our decision to purchase an Aspen home. Visitors are impressed by how well built this home is and the quality of the finishings. I highly recommend Aspen Homes to all my friends who are looking to build their own home.
