arkitek: design & architecture

Christopher Brown, Arkitek, designed a mixed use building in Ashland Oregon. (Full-disclosure; Chris is our nephew) It was a first for Chris, us and the builder and we all learned a lot in the process. Throughout Chris was respectful of our needs, budget and timeframe. He designed a building that beautifully blended elements of the town's historic district with the more industrial aspects of the surrounding buildings. The building is being awarded a historical compatibility award by the town historic commission. Chris aced the historic commission review and the city planning meeting. He worked well with the builder, civil engineers, building engineers, landscape designers and all of the specialty subcontractors. He kept us informed of any changes to the plan and worked with us to find ways to reduce costs as the project moved toward completion. Chris is certified in LEED planning work and we are pursuing a gold LEED certification; his expertise in this area allowed us to make a building that is not only beautiful but energy efficient and conservative in its use of water and other natural resources.

Chris does excellent work. I appreciate his attention to detail and quality no less than his intelligence, creativity and vision. I look forward to collaborating with him on future projects
