Alastair Houston Landscapes

Alastair and his team built a wonderful new garden for us. It was a big job, replacing a lot of old concrete with stonework built on two levels to create new garden beds and a sandstone-paved courtyard. The whole team were highly skilled in using stone. Just as importantly, they were creative and enthusiastic about the work. Quite a few features of the design had to be developed as the project progressed. We left many of those decisions to them, and we were really delighted with the beautiful solutions they came up with.

Alastair and his team were very professional throughout each stage of the project, from the initial site visits and quoting through to the completion of the job and followup visits, even to the extent of coming back after the job had finished and providing some of his team to help with the initial maintenance. I really liked the way they regularly communicated with us about what was happening and when any changes needed to be made to the work, which was very important to us as we constantly travelling interstate and were not often onsite. Alastair would also check in with me at the end of each week to discuss how things were going and whether any issues had arisen. The team work between us, Alastair and our landscape designer was excellent I think and resulted in several real improvements to the design as the work proceeded. The work itself was first class; the quality of the wall work in particular was exceptional. In all, the work was completed pretty well within the original time plan and budget. I sensed that Alastair as well as his team genuinely cared about the job and wanted to get the best possible result for us, which they did.I would highly recommend him.

Alastair and his team worked closely with Designer Catherine Shields on our landscaping. They were always highly professional, friendly and helpful, accommodating our young family and changes to the brief along the way. Alastair has a unique gift for stone masonry. He adapted his eye for perfection to our request for a boulder embankment to be naturalistically arranged and nailed the brief. Pleasure to work with. Highly recommended.

We have used Houston Landscapes on two occasions now and both times we have been thrilled with the workmanship and attention to detail. Alastair's staff are all highly professional, friendly and courteous. Always a job well done.

The job was to turn an almost completely concreted area on a steep slope with very limited access into an easily managed attractive garden. After helping us plan our new site Alastair firstly went and called in to all the neighbours on our street to explain about the noise, dust, increased traffic etc - a small thing but it typifies Alastairs concern for everyone around him. The work involved the installation of sandstone walls, water and lighting systems and a total replant of the garden.Although a very good stonemason Alastair had to call in other tradesmen such as plumbers, electricians and other workmen and they all seemed to hold him in high respect. He has a very pleasant team working around him and although there was the odd hiccup everything was resolved in a calm and ( for us )stressless manner

We have built a house and renovated a number of times and have dealt with a lot of tradesmen. Alistair Houston is an absolute delight to do business with. He is clever and innovative and all his work for us has been to a high standard. He has been happy to do small jobs as well as big ones and he is totally reliable. All of his crew are great to have around and we have been more than happy with the results.

Alastair and his team laid approximately 200m2 of sandstone paving at our house in 2014 and later in the year about 100m2 of sandstone paving at Coast House, together with various ancilliary works. Alastair and his team did the work with the utmost accuracy (falls of 1 in 300 have are still draining properly after nearly 3 years), and to the architect’s design. The team’s work was efficient, and carried out with great cleanliness. Alastair cooperated extremely well with the builder, who was completing the fit out simultaneously, planned his work well, and organised his suppliers to deliver the right materials at the right time. Alistair and his team communicated exceptionally well with the architect, Andy Lehman and the owners of the project. In short, a great job, and we would not hesitate to have him back, nor to recommend him to other clients.
