Austin's Leader in Contemporary Landscape Design | Best of Houzz
ADLA Studio is a landscape architecture and construction firm that merges horticultural knowledge, technical building skill, and fine art sensibilities to create site-specific, inspirational gardens. We specialize in residential gardens, private estates and commercial landscape design. We provide complete design-build services from conceptual schematics through development to final installation.
Motivated by our passion for nature, art and architecture, our work seeks to balance our client’s individual lifestyles with the nature of their site. We regard the built environment as the ultimate medium through which ecology, functionality and aesthetics culminate into artistic expression. By weaving together the poetic elements that define landscapes such as color, texture, light, and atmosphere, we strive to create spatial compositions that foster a deeper connection to the outside world.
Our approach is illustrated through the process of thoughtful observation, listening and collaboration. We envision each site’s inherent possibilities and through the methods of careful plant and material selection and attention to detail. Our work seeks to elegantly choreograph spaces that reflect our client’s desires. Landscapes are dynamic and ephemeral and we pay special attention to seasonality and how each design will evolve and mature over time.

Thank you to Todd and all the staff at ADLA for the fabulous work they did!!!!! The landscaping, lighting, pavers, plants & every detail they did turned this unusual space into a beautiful extended outdoor living space! The professionalism & care for every detail is evident. I would highly recommend them.

ADLA Studio
ADLA Studio designed and installed a variety of features (metal planters, boulders, plants, grasses, a tree, irrigation system, gravel walkway and porch extension) in our yard. We wanted to create obstacles to keep cars from entering our lawn while providing space for native plants and grasses. They really listened to what we wanted and they delivered. Our designer Todd put together a beautiful and functional plan. They were responsive and professional every throughout the process. We are very pleased with the result and we are excited to watch the plants and grasses fill in and mature.

We had an amazing experience with ADLA and highly recommend them. We worked with ADLA on a multi-phased project to fully reimagine our backyard, including pool design. We also completely revamped our front landscaping to match overall aesthetic.
First, we absolutely loved Tyler's eye for design, and the finished product was even better than we had hoped (and we had high hopes!). The ADLA team got to know us and really understood what we were hoping to achieve. Costs were always super clear, and we felt we had a full understanding the financial commitment. Working with the team was easy, and we always had clear status of where things stood (Michelle is the best!). In our view, the crews that did the work were terrific, particularly the stone work, which was incredibly precise and well-done.
We also really appreciated the follow through after the work was complete, including helping ensure we had our irrigation set properly for our landscaping to thrive.
Overall we had a wonderful experience. ADLA gave us a backyard we'll enjoy with our five kids for years to come.

Blake and Erin have been a real joy to work with. We originally designed an overall masterplan for their site and executed a first phase a few years ago, stopping short of including front entry work and the pool. I was very excited to connect with them again to complete the final phases of the project installation. We are looking forward to seeing their landscape fill out and mature over time!
We had our back yard landscaped/designed by ADLA in 2021 and then two years later, we reached out to have our front yard redesigned as we were so happy with the results of the back yard. Their project manager, Michelle, is one of the best project managers that we have ever worked with. She showed up every single day onsite and was always available via phone/text/email, not to mention her friendly demeanor. Tyler created a beautiful design for us and we have had so many neighbors go out of their way to stop by to compliment us on how beautiful the front yard looks! They were resourceful and creative with their plant suggestions based on our changing climate in Austin and were flexible in the moment with adjustments, feedback, etc. I highly recommend ADLA for your design/landscaping needs!

Excellent work and communication from the get-go, ADLA was an absolute joy to work with. Say nothing of the design, the team was professional, on time, worked within my budget, and responsive from beginning to end. I've dealt with lazy contractors before and to team with ADLA, who knocked out my project in just one month (front and back yard) was amazing.
The design process was great, and I felt heard when we discussed options for the yard and they were implemented. I also knew I could lean on their team to stylish fill in the blanks of my imagination. The result is a beautiful and functional space that draws lots of oohs and ahhs from my guests. Who wouldn't want that! I got detailed notes post-install to help with maintenance and upkeep which have been very appreciated. If I ever need work again, ADLA will be the first shop I turn to.

I recently used ADLA to do an extensive landscaping project and oversee a pool build which has all been going on for well over the past year and they have been fantastic to work with from start to finish. Todd, Tyler and Michelle are awesome! They all have great creative ideas and have put a lot of thought into the design and execution of the project. They have been very responsive through out the entire time with emails, phone calls and meetings as needed. We could not be happier with the way everything has turned out. I would highly recommend them!

We found a great undeveloped lot, engaged an architect, designed the dwellings, but our project was brought to life by ADLA. We have been blown away by how thoughtful and well-considered each of the design elements are. To be honest, I have not been excited about this property until reviewing ADLA's work. Suddenly, I could see our family running around, sharing meals with friends, exploring, and generally enjoying the you know what out of that space. Thank you so much to ADLA for opening my eyes and making the potential for this space feel amazingly real. I was not at all expecting how powerful excellent landscape architecture could be. Tyler, Michelle, and the rest of the ADLA crew were great to work with, true professionals! When problems arouse during construction (as they always will) ADLA stepped in and solved them gracefully.
My yard looks great too, even better than the drawings and we are so pumped to have the hang-out spot we wanted.
I'd recommend them to my mother, and so you, too :)

ADLA was truly great to work with! Tyler, Todd and the team did an amazing job and we love our Hyde Park dream backyard. We have been living with the finished product for about seven months, and it looks even better now than when they finished! The plants have really flourished and the built-in bench is aging very nicely. They worked closely with us throughout the project, listened to our ideas and budget, and kept us up to date on progress. The ADLA team is professional, creative, and does high quality work. We would definitely hire ADLA again and refer them to friends and family.

Tyler, Todd, & Team were great to work with. They listened to our project goals and came up with a design that not only met our objectives but blew us away aesthetically. We have been living with the finished product for about four months, and it looks even better now than when they finished. I would highly recommend them.

ADLA redesigned and redeveloped my courtyard in Austin two years ago and I cannot recommend them enough. Tyler was great to work with and their pricing was very reasonable -- far better than other quotes I received. The install was seamless and, when one plant died rather quickly after install, Tyler sent his team over to replace it. My courtyard has a modern, clean aesthetic and has aged well with the plants growing in nicely. This house is now rented out to tenants and I think the courtyard is one of the main features that helped me rent it quickly. I look forward to working with ADLA again!

Highly recommend Tyler and team for any landscape design you have. They are creative and will really bring some ideas to your project that you'd never considered. We worked with them on an extensive back yard project and they were able to seamlessly dovetail with our pool builder. There was no detail left unconsidered as is often the case when there are two vendors on one design / build project. Would hire ADLA again and refer to friends and family.

ADLA did an excellent job on our landscaping project. My favorite part was that they worked closely with us throughout the entire project. They listened to our ideas and took them on board. We had some tricky areas that were a bit unsafe, and they were able to design solutions that eliminated the risks, fit in with our existing infrastructure and enhanced the beauty of the areas.
The construction/work crew did a great job. They are very good at construction and attention to detail. They worked so hard and were very friendly.
The timeline was met as projected, except for a couple of rainout days. The budget was met as well.

I highly recommend ADLA Studio. They were referred to me by a friend who previously worked with them. While other groups told me my courtyard redesign was impossible within my budget, Tyler was able to make it work and I couldn't be happier with the final project. ADLA's designs are very professional, clean and low maintenance. Throughout the process, Tyler was also willing to listen to my ideas and adjust the plans as needed -- and if there were any mistakes along the way, Tyler offered to fix them immediately. Overall, Tyler and his team were very easy to work with. I look forward to working with them again on future projects.

ADLA was a true pleasure to work with. From the moment I contacted their team until the completion of the project, the ADLA folks kept me in the loop and worked at a ferociously quick but thorough pace. I couldn't be happier with the design they presented me with and the actual completed landscaping itself. They worked within the confines of my budget and delivered a stellar end product. 10/10, would recommend to a friend!

ADLA Studio, Tyler and his crew have exceeded our expectations. As soon as we met with Tyler, we felt that he’d be a great fit for our landscaping project. Tyler’s design expertise and knowledge was evident from the get-go. He listened to our objectives – form (modern design) meets function (low maintenance and necessity to facilitate water flow) and came up with a design plan that fit our needs, lifestyle and aesthetic. He welcomed our input as far as plant likes/dislikes, even when I’m certain that I was being particular. Once the project started, we were surprised at how fast his crew was able to accomplish all of the various projects. The crew was polite, diligent and hard-working. ADLA studio is very detail oriented and thorough. And the quality of work is fantastic and far exceeded our expectations!

ADLA has helped me on two residential and three commercial projects. They have always turned the project in on time and at budget. That kind of up front honesty and reliability is hard to come by. The projects look great and range in size and scope. There is no project too large for this outfit. I am only giving ADLA 5 stars because I couldn't give them six. They are professional, creative and high quality.

I've worked on three projects to date with Articulated Design and I've consistently been impressed with the quality of the design and execution of their projects. The whole design team is committed to quality and this shows in their client satisfaction.
I also really appreciate the fact that they are constantly trying to push their designs, try new approaches, and take risks. Frankly most landscape design companies find a formula and stick with it. Articulated takes a client-centric approach and then pushes hard to take the projects to the next level. I'm a fan.

Tyler and I have worked together on several projects. He is very easy to work with as he always maintains an attitude of "do what's right". I believe his biggest asset is his ability to design and go beyond what other landscape companies provide. Whether it be outdoor living spaces, hardscapes, landscaping, or outdoor lighting, his eye for design is able to envision an end product that is amazing. After approval, his crew always provides a professional installation and a very happy client in the end. If you want something more than just "mulch and flowers", Tyler is the best.

Awesome job! Tyler and his team designed and executed a complete overhaul of our front yard (tree removal, surface grading, masonry repairs, new sod, landscaping, deck removal, new limestone patio installation with pergola, concealed french drains, etc, etc.). We honestly couldn't be more pleased with the results. If we were able rate the service more than 5 stars, we would. We were very impressed with the whole group at Articulated Design and their attention to detail and respect for us as customers. We finally have a beautiful and interesting space we're proud of.

Working with Tyler and team at Articulated Design was perfect for us. We had an idea of what we wanted and did not want to micro manage the process. Tyler and team understood what we were looking for, showed us a clear vision for the project, and executed on what they said they would do. We interviewed several different companies before hiring Tyler, Sara and their great crew at Articulated Design. Tyler spent a lot of time with us going over ideas and drawing out a plan for our backyard. We had struggled for several years on how to make the area more user friendly and he came up with an amazing, modern design for the unique space. We also wanted to keep it as low maintenance as possible and spent a lot of time determining the plants that would work. Their crew was great! They were efficient and very respectful of our space. We ended up doing some work in our front yard as well and Tyler also helped us with lighting and irrigation advice/installation. We finished the project several months ago and I still keep in touch with them. They are always quick to respond and answer my (many) questions. I would not hesitate to refer them and would definitely use them again!

After interviewing 3 other landscape architects, as soon as we sat down with Tyler, we knew that he "got" our vision. We wanted a modern, clean, low-maintenance design that would keep with the aesthetic of our house, and be eco-responsible. The execution was excellent, and Tyler was a great communicator throughout. He's an extremely friendly, responsible, and talented landscape architect. We would use him again, and have referred him to many of our friends.

Articulated Design did a wonderful job with our backyard and we love our new landscape! Tyler was so nice and easy to communicate with and he did a great job of developing an overall vision for the space, while at the same time incorporating some key components we had in mind for the project. Bonus points for keeping such a low profile in the build phase. We would definitely recommend them to our friends and hope to use them again for our front yard, when the time comes.

We LOVE our front yard! When we first moved in to our house, the front yard was so dense with overgrown shrubs and trees that you couldn't even see the front door. We dreamed of an inviting, contemporary space to entertain, but didn't have the vision or tools to make it happen on our own. Tyler to the rescue! What a great guy! We had several brainstorming and planning sessions before his team got started, and they completed the project in two phases to help us with budgeting. We couldn't be happier!

My backyard was pretty much a blank slate due to neglect from the previous owners. Tyler listened to what I envisioned and my desire to conserve water and came back with a nice design, wonderful plant selections, and a plan to fix some flooding issues near the back fence. The crew was professional and listened to my concerns and paid attention to every detail. I will definitely be using them to revamp my front yard!

We hired Articulated Design to redesign and re-vamp our muddy, mosquito- and poison-ivy ridden back yard in East Austin. We couldn't be happier with both the process and the results. Tyler came to check out the site and listened to all our concerns (wanted to have a useful space that didn't require a lot of maintenance or water), and delivered a design that (beautifully!) addressed all our needs about a week later. A few weeks later the crew came out and put a week's worth of hard work in making the design a reality--it was amazing to see how quickly they finished our job. They were great to work with--answering all my questions about maintenance, etc. The work was completed thoroughly and in enough time that we were able to try out our new fire pit before it got too warm. We have spent more time in our back yard in the past couple weeks since they finished work than in the past eight months combined. I highly recommend Articulated Design: it was a pleasure to work with Tyler, Gilbert, and the whole Articulated Design crew.

I loved working with Tyler and his team. They did a fantastic job working with us to develop the overall design, creating a beautiful and unique concept. They were also very helpful adjusting the vision to fit our budget, and to even break it out into phases so the project was manageable on our end. The actual team that did the work was great - great attention to detail, very hard working, and super friendly with great communication. I look forward to working with them for the execution of the next phase of our project!

Everyone we worked with at Articulated Design was extremely professional, courteous and responsive. Unlike other contractors we have used, the folks at Articulated Design really listened to our thoughts and concerns, and showed flexibility and creativity when we ran into a snag. We have used them since the original project for additional work and maintenance. We recommend Articulated Design highly.

Every time I pull into my driveway, I say to myself, "Wow, that looks great!" And, every time we have a new friend visit our home, and sometimes a stranger knock at the front door, they ask, "Who did your front yard?" Articulated Design took on the monumental task of giving us a great front yard back in 2010. Tyler transformed a dreary, dated, tired exterior on a busy street into a clean, fluid, xeriscaped, contemporary and welcoming space. We've worked with a lot of contractors on our old Travis Heights home and Tyler is the one we keep calling back again and again. He is efficient, on time and on budget. He possesses the very rare combination of being ridiculously creative (artist) yet also business savvy. An absolute joy to work with, we could not recommend him highly enough.

Tyler at Articulated Design installed my backyard landscaping last summer. He was great. Tyler followed the plan that my designer had done, but made suggestions to enhance the design. Where needed, Tyler made adjustments to the space around trees and altered the design to include a disappearing stream. The design also included pergolas and lighting which really add to the scenery. Tyler is very knowledgable about plants and design. My yard looks incredible this summer. I liked his work so much, that we had Tyler design and put in a walking trail at my husband's business.
