L’appartamento si trova alle pendici dell’Etna, vicino Catania, all’interno di un complesso residenziale degli anni ’70. Linea guida del progetto è stata la volontà di creare un grande open space che contenesse tutte le funzioni di cucina, zona pranzo e soggiorno, che divenisse il vero e proprio core dell’abitazione, eliminando le tramezzature . Qui il cambio di pavimentazione, gres grande formato color cemento per la cucina e rovere di Slavonia per la zona pranzo, distingue le diverse funzioni all’interno di un unico spazio, cosi come il controsoffitto contribuisce a differenziarle tramite salti di quota e uso differente del colore, bianco e alto per le aree di conversazione e pranzo, grigio e basso per le aree distributive e di passaggio. Qui quest’ultimo diviene in verticale ora guardaroba accanto l’ingresso, ora armadio contenitivo e dispensa nella zona prospicente la cucina, ora libreria vicino il grande tavolo da pranzo in legno. Attraverso una porta filo muro scorrevole si accede alla zona notte: qui si trovano le stanze da letto, il bagno principale e un bagno per gli ospiti .

Casework

When the homeowners first purchased the 1925 house, it was compartmentalized, outdated, and completely unfunctional for their growing family. Casework designed the owner's previous kitchen and family room and was brought in to lead up the creative direction for the project. Casework teamed up with architect Paul Crowther and brother sister team Ainslie Davis on the addition and remodel of the Colonial. The existing kitchen and powder bath were demoed and walls expanded to create a new footprint for the home. This created a much larger, more open kitchen and breakfast nook with mudroom, pantry and more private half bath. In the spacious kitchen, a large walnut island perfectly compliments the homes existing oak floors without feeling too heavy. Paired with brass accents, Calcutta Carrera marble countertops, and clean white cabinets and tile, the kitchen feels bright and open - the perfect spot for a glass of wine with friends or dinner with the whole family. There was no official master prior to the renovations. The existing four bedrooms and one separate bathroom became two smaller bedrooms perfectly suited for the client’s two daughters, while the third became the true master complete with walk-in closet and master bath. There are future plans for a second story addition that would transform the current master into a guest suite and build out a master bedroom and bath complete with walk in shower and free standing tub. Overall, a light, neutral palette was incorporated to draw attention to the existing colonial details of the home, like coved ceilings and leaded glass windows, that the homeowners fell in love with. Modern furnishings and art were mixed in to make this space an eclectic haven.

は家族がそろって向き合うスペース。食卓を囲んで会話がはずめば、食事もいっそうおいしく感じられることでしょう。日本の家庭では、リビングダイニングとしてまとめられている間取りも多いですが、食事をいただく場所ですので、いつも片付いていて清潔に保たれているようにしたいですね。特に、朝食・ランチ・ディナーすべてをでとるという方は、いっそうインテリアに力を入れたい場所です。の多くがキッチンの隣に設置されている場合、デザインに統一感を持たせると空間がすっきりとした印象になります。

のインテリアは“シンプル”が正解

の主役は、ダイニングテーブルに乗る食事です。食事をおいしく食べる場所という役割が明確なのインテリアは実に悩ましいところです。例えば、レストランではフレンチ、イタリアン、和食、中華とジャンルごとにインテリアも食事に合わせてコーディネートしますが、一般の家庭では今日はイタリアン、今日は和食、とそのときどきによってメニューが変わるのでそうはいきません。なので、どんなものにも合わせやすい、シンプルめなインテリアで統一するのが正解。その代わり、ランチョンマットを食事によって変えたり、テーブルに季節の花などを飾ったりして、その料理を引き立たせ、かつ、ルームにアクセントを与えましょう。

の照明の選び方

では照明も重要なポイント。食材をおいしそうに見せ、家族の“おいしい”顔をはっきり映す照明の選び方を知りましょう。の照明は、発色をきれいに見せてくれる白熱球がおすすすめです。は照明の使用時間も長いので、導入費用はかかれど寿命が長いLEDのタイプが人気です。特に、食欲をかき立てる“赤色”が鮮やかに見えます。また、陰影がはっきりするので立体感が出て、お料理をいっそう美しく、おいしそうに見せます。さらに、にペンダントライトを設置する際には、その高さもポイント。高すぎるとまぶしさを感じ、低すぎるとテーブルの端まで光が当たらず、影ができてしまい、せっかくの料理も引き立ちません。シェード（傘）とテーブルまでの距離は、60〜80cm程度はなれているのが理想です。また、バランスのよいシェードの大きさ（直径）はテーブルのサイズの1/3程度とされています。の照明は、実際に設置やシミュレーションをしてみないと、明るさや光の届く範囲がなかなか想定できません。の広さや間取り、自然光の入る窓の位置などを把握したうえで、照明の専門家に相談するのがおすすめです。
