The home had gone through an extensive renovation several years earlier that added a master bedroom suite and updates to the front façade. The kitchen however was not part of that update and a prior 1990’s update had left much to be desired. The client is an avid cook, and it was just not very functional for the family. The original kitchen was very choppy and included a large eat in area that took up more than its fair share of the space. On the wish list was a place where the family could comfortably congregate, that was easy and to cook in, that feels lived in and in check with the rest of the home’s décor. They also wanted a space that was not cluttered and dark – a happy, light and airy room. A small powder room off the space also needed some attention so we set out to include that in the remodel as well. See that arch in the neighboring dining room? The homeowner really wanted to make the opening to the dining room an arch to match, so we incorporated that into the design. Another unfortunate eyesore was the state of the ceiling and soffits. Turns out it was just a series of shortcuts from the prior renovation, and we were surprised and delighted that we were easily able to flatten out almost the entire ceiling with a couple of little reworks. Other changes we made were to add new windows that were appropriate to the new design, which included moving the sink window over slightly to give the work zone more breathing room. We also adjusted the height of the windows in what was previously the eat-in area that were too low for a countertop to work. We tried to keep an old island in the plan since it was a well-loved vintage find, but the tradeoff for the function of the new island was not worth it in the end. We hope the old found a new home, perhaps as a potting table. This lovely family kitchen extension has created the required space for a family dining area and snug. Our Oak extension with a feature lantern helps to encourage natural light into the home and extend the indoors out. The Oak frame has bought a warmth of character into the room.

The second project for Edit 58's Lisa Mehydene, this time in London. The requirement was one long run and no wall cupboards, giving a completely open canvas above the worktops.

Tthe space was opened up to provide generous amounts of light, and wall-to-wall windows and doors were added to create one great dining experience and to allow the outside beauty to come inside. Eyes are immediately drawn to the expansive kitchen island. The custom island was painted a vintage grey with red undertones and distressed to create the perfect look. Throughout the kitchen the custom cabinets and drawers, made by Trademark Wood Products, were painted a soft, warm white. The ends of the island were custom set at the exact height for our homeowner who enjoys baking. The decision to keep the granite honed countertops lighter on the perimeter was made in order to keep the island as a bold statement. Along the outer custom wall of cabinetry incorporated a stylish and functional prep kitchen allowed our homeowners, who also love to entertain, a more useful and expansive space. After doubling the size of our homeowner’s preceding kitchen and adding custom features, baking, entertaining, or a casual night will never be the same as they overlook the backyard views of Minnehaha Creek. Nestled in Drayton, Abingdon, our latest kitchen showcases the seamless fusion of functionality and aesthetics. The bespoke Hepworth and Wood furniture takes centre stage, with the double-bevel Bramham door design adding immediate interest to the space. The choice of Benjamin Moore Scuff-X paint, expertly mixed to the client's preference, adds a truly personal touch. An Artscut worktop, though now a discontinued shade, is testament to the commitment to exceptional design that goes beyond the ordinary. In this kitchen, every fixture tells a story. The Quooker and Perrin & Rowe taps harmonise seamlessly. An Aga, thoughtfully provided by the client, brings a touch of culinary tradition to the space, while the Falmec hood, Caple wine cooler and Liebherr fridge and freezer complete the ensemble. Navigating the intricacies of the client's brief, we set out to craft a space that offers grandeur yet exudes the warmth of a family home. The result is a perfect sanctuary for the couple and their grown-up children, allowing them to gather, celebrate, and create cherished memories. With a primary focus on harnessing the stunning view out towards the Hudson river, our client wanted to use tones and stains that would be highlighted through natural light. As a result, the pairing of light tones of white and blue helped create this sense of continuity that we were searching for. As well as the incorporation of two central islands, the choice in materiality helped create a strong sense of contrast.
