Normandy Designer Stephanie Bryant CKD worked closely with these Clarendon Hills homeowners to create a front porch entry that was not only welcoming to family and guests, but boosted the curb appeal of this traditional home.

Modern mountain aesthetic in this fully exposed custom designed ranch. Exterior brings together lap siding and stone veneer accents with welcoming timber columns and entry truss. Garage door covered with standing seam metal roof supported by brackets. Large timber columns and beams support a rear covered screened porch. (Ryan Hainey)

This is the entry façade of an oceanfront house on Kiawah Island. It has a gracious front porch adorned with the quintessential porch furniture: rocking chairs. The porch ceiling is natural stained beaded board, the shutters are operable wood, the siding is cedar shingles stained on all 6 sides, the brick is old brick, and the roof is heavy Vermont slate.

Glass sliding doors open the central kitchen, dining, and living room to the outdoor oasis. Showing an al-fresco cooking and dining area, as well as the primary bedroom's private outdoor area.

What a view! This custom-built, Craftsman style home overlooks the surrounding mountains and features board and batten and Farmhouse elements throughout.

The plan concept involved moving the existing stair to free up more interior space, and relocating it to the new stair tower of the addition, connecting all three floors through a light-filled vertical element.

Maximizing the natural slope of the site allowed for two full-levels of living area that gets loads of natural light. This custom home was designed and built by Meadowlark Design+Build in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Photography by Joshua Caldwell.

Situated on the edge of New Hampshire’s beautiful Lake Sunapee, this Craftsman-style shingle lake house peeks out from the towering pine trees that surround it. When the clients approached Cummings Architects, the lot consisted of 3 run-down buildings. The challenge was to create something that enhanced the property without overshadowing the landscape, while adhering to the strict zoning regulations that come with waterfront construction. The result is a design that encompassed all of the clients’ dreams and blends seamlessly into the gorgeous, forested lake-shore, as if the property was meant to have this house all along.
The ground floor of the main house is a spacious open concept that flows out to the stone patio area with fire pit. Wood flooring and natural fir bead-board ceilings pay homage to the trees and rugged landscape that surround the home. The gorgeous views are also captured in the upstairs living areas and third floor tower deck. The carriage house structure holds a cozy guest space with additional lake views, so that extended family and friends can all enjoy this vacation retreat together. Photo by Eric Roth

A new all-season room with windows on three sides was built on the foot print of the original screen porch. This new Forest Room snuggles up to the near-by woodlands, and opens onto a new terrace.
