Our La Cañada studio designed this lovely home, keeping with the fun, cheerful personalities of the homeowner. The entry runner from Annie Selke is the perfect introduction to the house and its playful palette, adding a welcoming appeal. In the dining room, a beautiful, iconic Schumacher wallpaper was one of our happy finishes whose vines and garden colors begged for more vibrant colors to complement it. So we added bold green color to the trims, doors, and windows, enhancing the playful appeal. In the family room, we used a soft palette with pale blue, soft grays, and warm corals, reminiscent of pastel house palettes and crisp white trim that reflects the turquoise waters and white sandy beaches of Bermuda! The formal living room looks elegant and sophisticated, with beautiful furniture in soft blue and pastel green. The curtains nicely complement the space, and the gorgeous wooden center table anchors the space beautifully. In the kitchen, we added a custom-built, happy blue island that sits beneath the house’s namesake fabric, Hydrangea Heaven. ---Project designed by Courtney Thomas Design in La Cañada. Three floating-curved flights play a spectacular effect in this recently built home; soft wooden oak treads and oak rails blend beautifully with the hardwood flooring, while its balustrade is an architectural decorative confection of black wrought-iron in clean geometrical patterns. We took this New Zealand wool carpet that has the look of a tailored suit and fabricated a stair runner for a multiple repeat client in Corona del Mar, CA

The steel cables in the stair rail and along the 2nd floor gallery give a nod to European styling --- as do the medium toned hardwoods throughout the home. The modern influence of this design is an effective contrast to the more traditional moldings and eclectic country vibe of the kitchen. These varied influences work seamlessly together to honor the styles of everyone enjoying the spaces in this beautiful family home.

The open stringer staircase (aka floating staircase) add to form AND fuction - letting light through the open slots. Walls have been painted Benjamin Moore American White (2112-70), flooring is light oak laminate.

Perfectly embedded on an acre of land overlooking a pond, in the heart of Willow Bend of Plano, this dated, traditional home got more than a complete facelift. The wife is a “farmer’s daughter” and could have never imagined having a home like this to call her own one day. Finding a 15’ dining table was a tall task… especially for a family of four. Using a local craftsman, the most gorgeous white oak table was created to host everyone in the neighborhood! The clients told a lot of stories about their past and children. The designer realized that the stories were actually treasures as she incorporated their memories and symbols in every room. She brought these memories to life in a custom artwork collage above the family room mantel. From a tractor representing the grandfather, to the Russian alphabet portraying the roots of their adopted sons and some Cambodian script, there were meanings behind each piece. In order to bring nature indoors, the designer decided to demo the exterior wall to the patio to add a large folding door and blew out the wall dividing the formal dining room and breakfast room so there would be a clear sight through to the outdoors. Throughout the home, each family member was thought of. The fabrics and finishes had to withstand small boys, who were extremely active. The use of outdoor fabrics and beautiful scratch proof finishes were incorporated in every space – bring on the hotwheels.

New staircase formed to provide access from existing first floor living space to the new formal living room at mezzanine level. The stair is made from douglas fir with a birch veneer ply balustrade. The clean lines of this stair sit quietly within the existing first floor room. We incorporated a continual shadow gap along the base of the plastered wall to create a floating stair effect. The addition of recessed plaster in wall lights look integral to the plastered wall.
