Our energetic client came to us with a design challenge – take a broken-up layout, make it flow, and add a French flair. And, it was imperative that we maximize storage and make the whole space kid and dog friendly. This interior design project was a true collaboration. When we began, the kitchen and the dining room were completely separate spaces. Our down2earth interior design team proposed layouts that ranged from modest interventions (retaining the wall that divided the dining room and kitchen), to moderate interventions that left a partial wall in place, to major realignments that opened the space wide up. By creating design drawings for these different levels of intervention, the homeowners were able to view the pros and cons and price the different options. Happily, after having engineers verify that it was doable, they chose a wide open layout, which allows these party people to have a fabulous entertaining space. Once the layouts for the kitchen and dining room were established, it was time to collaborate with the builder on lighting placement and with the woodworker to get all the little details right, such as dog dishes in the blue island and specialized storage at the perimeter. The wood fumehood was part of the homeowners’ original vision and is the focal point of the back wall. The brass and glass shelves over the bar cabinets were sourced by the homeowners as well, and we worked within the company’s offerings to get the proportions just right. A brass bar was added to the toe-kick area of the custom designed breakfast nook to match the brass bar shelf brackets and support little feet. Lighting, furniture, upholstered bench cushions, and drapery all soften the space and provide that desired French flair. Counter tops are super white leather granite.

Our design centers around a harmonious blend of light gray and off-white tones, setting a serene and inviting backdrop for this kitchen makeover. These neutral hues will work in harmony to create a calming ambiance and enhance the natural light, making the kitchen feel open and welcoming. To infuse a sense of nature and add a striking focal point, we have carefully selected green cabinets. The rich green hue, reminiscent of lush gardens, brings a touch of the outdoors into the space, creating a unique and refreshing visual appeal. The cabinets will be thoughtfully placed to optimize both functionality and aesthetics. Throughout the project, our focus is on creating a seamless integration of design elements to produce a cohesive and visually stunning kitchen. The cabinetry, hood, light fixture, and other details will be meticulously crafted using high-quality materials, ensuring longevity and a timeless appeal. The most elegant, cozy, quaint, french country kitchen in the heart of Roland Park. Simple shaker-style white cabinets decorated with a mix of lacquer gold latches, knobs, and ring pulls. Custom french-cafe-inspired hood with an accent of calacattta marble 3x6 subway tile. A center piece of the white Nostalgie Series 36 Inch Freestanding Dual Fuel Range with Natural Gas and 5 Sealed Brass Burners to pull all the gold accents together. Small custom-built island wrapped with bead board and topped with a honed Calacatta Vagli marble with ogee edges. Black ocean honed granite throughout kitchen to bring it durability, function, and contrast!

We transformed this space with all new IKEA cabinets stainless steel appliances, Zuhne plumbing finishes, and IKEA door hardware. The backsplash tile is a hand crafted Richard & Sterling tile which complements the Pental Misterio quartz. Sometimes its not about the pizazz but rather the simplicity of only a few colors, letting the textures and details catch your eyes.

The client's attention to detail and commitment to achieving a cohesive look in her kitchen extended to the choice of appliances. She opted for white appliances that seamlessly matched the color of her pristine cabinets, creating a harmonious, monochromatic aesthetic. The white appliances blended flawlessly with the overall design, adding to the traditional and warm ambiance she desired. The remaining stainless steel appliances were strategically placed together in one designated area of the kitchen. This careful arrangement ensured that the stainless steel elements hardly stood out as eyesores but rather became a complementary part of the overall kitchen design.

Serenity in the Kitchen. When working with an open floor plan, it’s essential to tie in these spaces with the rest of the Home. The custom metal hood becomes the star of the show, and you can be sure that each time a visitor arrives, our homeowners are offering up home made cappuccinos from their built-in Miele coffee bar. With two dishwashers and two sinks, we have created "zones" in which to work in for prep work, cleaning, cooking and storage alike. Thermador Refrigerator and Freezer columns create a tall wall for the space and accentuate the high ceilings. The white custom shaker cabinets gave us the perfect tone to match the crown molding for the rest of the home. Soft and sophisticated bar stools play nicely against the stone countertops and Alder Wood island.

This image shows off our hand-carved and hand-painted Medieval Floral Tiles in the color combination Helsinki. The main patter above the stove is a checkerboard alternating 4x4" tiles in our color Marshmallow and our Medieval Floral Tiles in our combination Helsinki.

When I came onto this project the entire back of the house was missing and tarped off. This client is also a creative and we did many different renderings before we settled onto this one. They wanted to create an area that was open and great for entertaining her large family. Plus, they have the most amazing backyard and wanted to let in as much light as possible. Then end result was stunning and the perfect place to hold the holidays.
