This fun family room is the result of a great Client-Designer collaboration. This new house was a builder spec house, and the Client had negotiated to have one built in included in their purchase price. She had decided to have bookcases built to the left and right of the shallow fireplace. Instead, we had the "free" built in constructed in the Living Room (take a look at the photo of the LR.) The shallow stone work would have been lost in the shadows of the bookcases, and the room could have felt too heavy/serious. We were both delighted with our choice!

We used this beautiful french fuchsia chair as our inspiration and worked around it! The plum and blush accents were a nice way to bring in that color family.

Homeowners’ request: To convert the existing wood burning fire place into a gas insert and installed a tv recessed into the wall. To be able to fit the oversized antique leather couch, to fit a massive library collection. I want my space to be functional, warm and cozy. I want to be able to sit by my fireplace, read my beloved books, gaze through the large bay window and admire the view. This space should feel like my sanctuary but I want some whimsy and lots of color like an old English den but it must be organized and cohesive. Designer secret: Building the fireplace and making sure to be able to fit non custom bookcases on either side, adding painted black beams to the ceiling giving the space the English cozy den feeling, utilizing the opposite wall to fit tall standard bookcases, minimizing the furniture so that the clients' over sized couch fits, adding a whimsical desk and wall paper to tie all the elements together. This corner was a mid project addition. We decided to make use of what was going to be dead space, and add complimentary shelving. To help marry the rustic and modern, we alternated lacquered white shelves and cut off planks from the veneer's on the front of the fireplace wall adjacent.

Shabby Chic Transformation in this large open concept living room. This room was formerly a large, tiled space painted a dark shade of green. The light barely peeked in and when it did, it hardly was noticed as it did not bounce off the walls or move about the space. Antique bookcases were found at a local estate sale in New Orleans and they were chalk painted and lightly distressed.
