For this project we were hired to design the residential interiors and common spaces of this new development in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. This project consists of two small sister buildings located on the same lot; both buildings together have 25,000 s.f of residential space which is divided into 13 large condos. The apartment interiors were given a loft-like feel with an industrial edge by keeping exposed concrete ceilings, wide plank oak flooring, and large open living/kitchen spaces. All hardware, plumbing fixtures and cabinetry are black adding a dramatic accent to the otherwise mostly white spaces; the spaces still feel light and airy due to their ceiling heights and large expansive windows. All of the apartments have some outdoor space, large terraces on the second floor units, balconies on the middle floors and roof decks at the penthouse level. In the lobby we accentuated the overall industrial theme of the building by keeping raw concrete floors; tiling the walls in a concrete-like large vertical tile, cladding the mailroom in Shou Sugi Ban, Japanese charred wood, and using a large blackened steel chandelier to accent the space.

Less is More modern interior approach includes simple hardwood floor,single wall solid black laminate kitchen cabinetry and kitchen island, clean straight open space layout. A lack of clutter and bold accent color palettes tie into the minimalist approach to modern design.

Part of an extensive home remodel, this kitchen design was born of one man’s love of all things Harley Davidson. Color inspiration came from the client’s own cherished bike which was a stunning combination of matte black and brushed steel. The client’s wish was to have a large open area in which he could “be one with his guests” when hosting large gatherings. Cabinets, hardware and appliances all in black allow the focus to be on the beauty of the larger architectural elements as a whole. Included along the main storage wall is a hidden 42” refrigerator, dual pull-out pantries, and extra wide drawers below a pair of upper cabinets with matte black glass fold-up doors that open & close automatically via servo-drive technology. The new island - which measures just shy of 16 ½ feet! - is a true central point around which all action revolves. Wide walkways on either side provide ease of flow for multiple sous chefs and guests alike. A textured cypress soffit above the island was designed to house the modern hood and also create a feeling of unity as it is the same size as the island below. Textured cypress wood also wraps matte black cabinetry and lines the main wall, changing grain direction to provide visual interest. The 5’ Galley Workstation is a multi-functional marvel, easily transitioning from prep station to serving surface to clean-up with the addition of its built-in accessories. Placing an undercounter wine refrigerator on the back side of the island makes it easy for guests at the bar to help themselves. Close to the bar seating area, a 42” flat screen tv fits perfectly flush in the wall, practically disappearing when not in use. Unique details include a large display cabinet with a metal framed front & side crafted out of steel by a local artisan. The glass is 2-way mirror so when the interior light is off, the treasure is concealed inside. The interior is painted in the trademark Harley orange. Above a modern dining table, a one-of-a-kind chandelier was created from 3 bike helmets, painted in Harley orange by a local automobile detail shop. The interiors are finished in metallic silver for extra glow. Adjacent to the Kitchen, and initially deceiving in its simplicity, the main tv wall was quite complex and challenging to realize. It has a convex curve from left to right and slopes back from floor to ceiling. The interior hollow space created room for a shallow tv niche on top and partially recessed deep media storage cabinets below. The planning and framing involved to create the proper compound miter connections required extra diligence from the designers and builder, but the finished product was worth the effort! Costituito da una zona giorno, 2 camere da letto e un bagno, l’appartamento è diventato uno spazio di sperimentazione che riunisce contesto nord-europeo e origini meridionali dei padroni di casa. L’appartamento è progettato per una coppia italiana che vive a Londra. Soluzioni moderne con motivi classici del Novecento Milanese e rilievi massicci sono combinati con elementi di design anni ‘80. Il terrazzo alla veneziana riveste non il pavimento, ma l’imbottitura delle poltrone del soggiorno e i pannelli dietro alla testata del letto della camera matrimoniale. Arco metafisico e basso rilievo (tenda in gesso) creano atmosfera degli anni 30s italiani con la loro scultura femmina avvolta nella veste piegata. Un altro mondo, quello misterioso, non è solo in materia, ma nelle sensazioni anche. Superfici a specchio creano l’illusione di un secondo soggiorno, separato da una tenda in gesso. Lo stesso metodo è stato utilizzato nella stanza degli ospiti. Domanda, confronto, contrasto, dualità? La combinazione di due fenomeni avviene anche nella palette. i colori del Nord scuri e quelli luminosi meridionale, parquet a spina di pesce e effetto seminato, la linearità di parti metalliche e la vibrante linea del tessile, la modernità e il patrimonio. - Небольшая, состоящая из дневной зоны, 2 спален и санузла, квартира стала экспериментальным пространством, объединяющим северо-европейский контекст и южно-европейские корни хозяев. Квартира сделана для итальянской пары, живущей в Лондоне. Современные решения с классическими мотивами Novecento Milanese и массивными рельефами соседствуют с элементами дизайна 80-х. Венецианский терраццо украшает не пол, а текстиль кресел гостиной и панели за изголовьем кровати хозяйской спальни. Метафизические арки и крупнокалиберный барельеф (гипсовая штора) задают атмосферу итальянских 30-х с их крупной женской скульптурой, обернутой в складчатые платья. Другой, загадочный, мир – не только в материи, но и в ощущениях. Зеркальные поверхности создают иллюзию второй гостиной, отделенной шторой. Тот же прием использован в гостевой комнате. Вопрос, сравнение, контраст, дуализм? Совмещение двух явлений в любом случае имеет место и в палитре. Северные темные цвета и светлые южные, дерево и камень, линейность в металлических деталях и вибрирующая линия текстиля, современность и наследие.

L’élégance et l’originalité sont à l’honneur.  Il s’agit d’une de nos plus belles réalisations. La singularité était le maître mot du projet. Une cuisine tout de noir vêtue avec son robinet d’or, une suite verte et graphique connectée à une SDB généreuse et rose poudrée.
