The Fontana Bridge residence is a mountain modern lake home located in the mountains of Swain County. The LEED Gold home is mountain modern house designed to integrate harmoniously with the surrounding Appalachian mountain setting. The understated exterior and the thoughtfully chosen neutral palette blend into the topography of the wooded hillside.

View of the front of the Lakeshore house in Sagle, Idaho. Andersen 100 series casement windows and sliding glass doors in black capture natural light reflected off the water. Siding is a mixture of cedar (horizontal) and channel siding (vertical) both finished with "Aquafor Brown," while beams and accents are finished in semi transparent "Old Dragon's Breath." Cedar soffit is finished in clear. Possini Euro Ellis wall sconces provide light outside each sliding glass door. Decking on the balcony above the garage is from DecTec in "Weathered Oak," railing is custom made from Mark Richardson metals and finished in black.

Located on a beach on the San Francisco Bay, the house is conceived as a pin-wheel composition of 4 pavilions around an interior courtyard. In order to minimize the visual impact, the 900 sq mt building develops on one floor gradually stepping down towards the beach. The environmental oriented design includes strategies for natural ventilation, passive solar energy and 100% electrical energy autonomy supported by an array of 110 sq. mt of photovoltaic cells mounted on the roof and on solar glass canopies. Glass sliding doors and windows, wood slats ventilated walls and copper roofing constitute the exterior skin of the building.

The Institute for Advanced Study is building a new community of 16 faculty residences on a site that looks out on the Princeton Battlefield Park. The new residences continue the Institute’s historic commitment to modern architecture.

The main body of the house, running east / west with a 40 degree roof pitch, roof windows and dormers makes up the primary accommodation with a 1 & 3/4 storey massing. The garage and rear lounge create an additional wrap around form on the north east corner while the living room forms a gabled extrusion on the south face of the main body. The living area takes advantage of sunlight throughout the day thanks to a large glazed gable. This gable, along with other windows, allow light to penetrate deep into the plan throughout the year, particularly in the winter months when natural daylight is limited. Materials are used to purposely break up the elevations and emphasise changes in use or projections from the main, white house facade. The large projections accommodating the garage and open plan living area are wrapped in Quartz Grey Zinc Standing Seam roofing and cladding which continues to wrap around the rear corner extrusion off the main building. Vertical larch cladding with mid grey vacuum coating is used to differentiate smaller projections from the main form. The principal entrance, dormers and the external wall to the rear lounge provide a contrasting break in materials between the extruded forms and the different purpose of the spaces within.

The inner courtyards act as a cooling and shading mechanism in summer as well as bringing the landscape and surrounding paddocks into the heart of the home. Materials have been locally sourced in order to compliment the rural glow of the paddocks, red clay soil and cattle of the abutting landscape.

Dark kitchen cabinets, a glossy fireplace, metal lights, foliage-printed wallpaper; and warm-hued upholstery — this new build-home is a balancing act of dark colors with sunlit interiors. Modern Simpson 8'0" entry door with black Andersen 100 Series transom allow natural light to highlight the front area of the Lakeshore house in Sagle. The front door is paint grade and finished with Sherwin Wiliams "Sealskin," hardware is Emtek Modern Rectangular in "Flat Black," with a Helios lever. A Possini Euro Ellis sconce sits to the left of the door.
