A bright sitting area in Mid-century inspired remodel. The 2 armchairs covered in grey and white patterned fabric create a striking focal point against the green grasscloth covered walls. An oversized terracotta planter holds natural branches for decoration. The large standing light with white circular lamp shade brings soft light to the area at nights while slatted wooden blinds keep the direct sunlight at bay during the day.

The 3 bathrooms in this 1970's house were in serious need of remodeling - as in gut and re-build - so the owners decided to have them all done at once and while at it, refinish the floors, refurnish the living room and furnish the new screen porch addition. As a designer in a seasonal resort area, I am accustomed to working with my customers long distance. Using (and e-mailing) computer drafted renderings, product layout pages very professional builders, suppliers and steady communication, my client and I moved flawlessly through the challenges all remodel projects present. My goal was to find fabrics and furnishings that reflected the home's original architectural Mid Century Modern integrity The house has very strong horizontal lines that I wanted to repeat in the furniture, bathroom fixtures, tile and light fixture selections. It’s first impression was memorable as immediately after entering the front door, just past the dining table, there was a tree growing in the middle of home! Upon further inspection of the space it became apparent that this home had undergone several alterations during its lifetime... The homeowners unabashedness towards colour and willingness to embrace the home’s mid-century architecture made this home one of a kind. The existing T&G cedar ceiling, dropped beams, and ample glazing naturally leant itself to a mid-century space.

This 1960s home was in original condition and badly in need of some functional and cosmetic updates. We opened up the great room into an open concept space, converted the half bathroom downstairs into a full bath, and updated finishes all throughout with finishes that felt period-appropriate and reflective of the owner's Asian heritage.

L' armonia e l'equilibrio tra gli arredi e i colori sono fondamentali, quanto il loro rapporto con lo spazio che li ospita. Occorrono gusto, ricerca, tempo e pazienza per amalgamare oggetti che hanno storie diverse, provenienze diverse, alcuni comprati, altri regalati, trovati o ereditati. Fondamentali inoltre oggetti che evocano bei ricordi, quanto la presenza del verde. Questo renderà la casa veramente tua, perché la tua storia diventerà la sua storia. La sensazione di calore, familiarità, intimità ti avvolgeranno, e ti sentirai davvero "a casa". Qui: kilim persiano antico i cui colori e pattern si sposano perfettamente con il divano di velluto verde e le sedie stile bauhaus in tubolare di metallo e pelle bianca.
