Upon entering the penthouse the light and dark contrast continues. The exposed ceiling structure is stained to mimic the 1st floor's "tarred" ceiling. The reclaimed fir plank floor is painted a light vanilla cream. And, the hand plastered concrete fireplace is the visual anchor that all the rooms radiate off of. The rounded treatment on three sides is called bolection molding above it is a added mantle piece. A restrained color palette allows for the space to facilitate rest and relaxation. The new Kitchen and the Family Room are open to each other. So to make the rooms read well off of one another we needed to give the fireplace a face lift. So a new glass insert for the fireplace with a chrome surround and a cantilevered hearth were added. The stone tile surround was extended to the ceiling and the tile was changed. Every now and again we have the good fortune to provide our services in a location with stunningly gorgeous scenery. This Cape Neddick, Maine project represents one of those occasions. Nestled in the client’s backyard, the custom glass conservatory we designed and built offers breathtaking views of the Cape Neddick River flowing nearby. The picturesque result is a great example of how our custom glass enclosures can enhance your daily experience of the natural beauty that already surrounds your home. This conservatory is iconic in its form, designed and styled to match the existing look of the client’s residence, and built to withstand the full brunt of a New England winter. Positioned to maximize views of the river, the glass addition is completed by an adjacent outdoor patio area which provides additional seating and room to entertain. The new space is annexed directly to the home via a steel-reinforced opening into the kitchen in order to provide a convenient access path between the home’s interior and exterior. The mahogany glass roof frame was engineered in our workshop and then transported to the job site and positioned via crane in order to speed construction time without sacrificing quality. The conservatory’s exterior has been painted white to match the home. The floor frame sits atop helical piers and we used wide pine boards for the interior floor. As always, we selected some of the best US-made insulated glass on the market to complete the project. Low-e and argon gas-filled, these panes will provide the R values that make this a true four-season structure.

Au détour d’une petite impasse fleurie se trouve la maison. Avec un coeur de vie : un étage pour le partage. L’histoire d’une rencontre avec une famille... un peu bohème et fortement attachante. Point de départ : respecter le lieu et son histoire. On redonne leurs lettres de noblesse aux matériaux cachés (briques, carreaux de ciment, moulures et poutres métalliques) et l’on imagine une ambiance « chine » et industrielle qui correspond bien aux propriétaires. La cuisine (précédemment située au sous sol) retrouve sa fonction de noyau de communication. Le jeu de verrières d’atelier et leur déclinaison en meuble « Hotte couture » peaufine cette sensation d’espace et de sur mesure. Et si le style paraît décontracté, les détails n’en sont pas moins soignés. Le béton ciré est tiré à quatre épingles et, cerise sur le gâteau, l’électricité est traitée « à l’ancienne » ... Il ne reste plus qu’à faire une bonne sieste dans la « cuisine devenue chambre ». Il parait qu’il y fait très bon ;-)
