Custom Cabinetry Creates Light and Airy Kitchen. A combination of white painted cabinetry and rustic hickory cabinets create an earthy and bright kitchen. A new larger window floods the kitchen in natural light.
Two islands work well in this rustic kitchen designed with knotty alder cabinets by Studio 76 Home. This kitchen functions well with stained hardwood flooring and granite surfaces; and the slate backsplash adds texture to the space. A Subzero refrigerator and Wolf double ovens and 48-inch rangetop are the workhorses of this kitchen.

A sensitive retrofit approach throughout the house sees new materials bring a contemporary feel to the Victorian shell. Natural light is treated as a material in itself, and each living space benefits from ample light throughout the day. The basement and ground floor extension creates further living spaces and new options for entertaining guests.
One of the best ways to have rooms with an open floor plan to flow is to bring some of the same textures such as wood into each room. These wood ceiling beams correspond with the wood kitchen island giving it a great flow.

The open kitchen and family room coordinate in colors and performance fabrics; the vertical striped chair backs are echoed in sofa throw pillows. The antique brass chandelier adds warmth and history. The island has a double custom edge countertop providing a unique feature to the island, adding to its importance. The breakfast nook with custom banquette has coordinated performance fabrics. This kitchen proves small East sac bungalows can have high function and all the storage of a larger kitchen. A large peninsula overlooks the dining and living room for an open concept. A lower countertop areas gives prep surface for baking and use of small appliances. Geometric hexite tiles by fireclay are finished with pale blue grout, which complements the upper cabinets. The same hexite pattern was recreated by a local artist on the refrigerator panes. A textured striped linen fabric by Ralph Lauren was selected for the interior clerestory windows of the wall cabinets.
