Le plan de travail en bois apporte de la chaleur et vient renforcer l’atmosphère « Nature » présente dans la pièce. Une cuisine ouverte travaillée tout en longueur pour y intégrer de nombreux placards ainsi que l’électroménager. BeachHaus is built on a previously developed site on Siesta Key. It sits directly on the bay but has Gulf views from the upper floor and roof deck. The client loved the old Florida cracker beach houses that are harder and harder to find these days. They loved the exposed roof joists, ship lap ceilings, light colored surfaces and inviting and durable materials. Given the risk of hurricanes, building those homes in these areas is not only disingenuous it is impossible. Instead, we focused on building the new era of beach houses; fully elevated to comfy with FEMA requirements, exposed concrete beams, long eaves to shade windows, coralina stone cladding, ship lap ceilings, and white oak and terrazzo flooring. The home is Net Zero Energy with a HERS index of -25 making it one of the most energy efficient homes in the US. It is also certified NGBS Emerald. Photos by Ryan Gamma Photography

This holistic project involved the design of a completely new space layout, as well as searching for perfect materials, furniture, decorations and tableware to match the already existing elements of the house. The key challenge concerning this project was to improve the layout, which was not functional and proportional. Balance on the interior between contemporary and retro was the key to achieve the effect of a coherent and welcoming space. Passionate about vintage, the client possessed a vast selection of old trinkets and furniture. The main focus of the project was how to include the sideboard,(from the 1850’s) which belonged to the client’s grandmother, and how to place harmoniously within the aerial space. To create this harmony, the tones represented on the sideboard’s vitrine were used as the colour mood for the house. The sideboard was placed in the central part of the space in order to be visible from the hall, kitchen, dining room and living room. The kitchen fittings are aligned with the worktop and top part of the chest of drawers. Green-grey glazing colour is a common element of all of the living spaces. In the the living room, the stage feeling is given by it’s main actor, the grand piano and the cabinets of curiosities, which were rearranged around it to create that effect. A neutral background consisting of the combination of soft walls and minimalist furniture in order to exhibit retro elements of the interior. Long live the vintage!

Une maison de ville comme on les aime : généreuse et conviviale. Elle étonne le visiteur par sa force de caractère, vite adoucie par quelques touches de pastel qui ponctuent l’espace. Le parquet a été entièrement restauré et certaines portions de type versaillais ont retrouvé leur éclat d’antan. Des rangements malins se logent ici et là tandis que le carrelage graphique des salles d’eau garantit un réveil revigorant.

The modern kitchen is flooded with natural light, with large picture windows and a skylight installed to transform the area from a dark and uninviting space, to a bright and airy room. The galley kitchen is designed around a kitchen island finished with distinctive teal units, a fresh white worktop and white hexagonal wall tiling.

The cabinets are a grey painted wood with custom routed pulls that triangulate to taper. The countertops in the space are a juxtaposition of concrete-effect dekton along with a 4” thick live-edge walnut slab.
