Lauren Smyth designs over 80 spec homes a year for Alturas Homes! Last year, the time came to design a home for herself. Having trusted Kentwood for many years in Alturas Homes builder communities, Lauren knew that Brushed Oak Whisker from the Plateau Collection was the floor for her! She calls the look of her home ‘Ski Mod Minimalist’. Clean lines and a modern aesthetic characterizes Lauren's design style, while channeling the wild of the mountains and the rivers surrounding her hometown of Boise.

This is a beautiful grey, white and stainless steel kitchen. This was a new build which gave us a lot of artistic freedom, that is how we incorporated some custom features. The large island is an amazing feature for cooking, eating and hosting friends and family. The views from the kitchen are stunning, overlooking Skaha lake and the mountains. We had the absolute pleasure of working on this project with Nik from Nik Interiors.

DOWNLOAD NOW Referred by past clients, the homeowners of this Glen Ellyn project were in need of an update and improvement in functionality for their kitchen, mudroom and laundry room. The spacious kitchen had a great layout, but benefitted from a new island, countertops, hood, backsplash, hardware, plumbing and lighting fixtures. The main focal point is now the premium hand-crafted CopperSmith hood along with a dramatic tiered chandelier over the island. In addition, painting the wood beadboard ceiling and staining the existing beams darker helped lighten the space while the amazing depth and variation only available in natural stone brought the entire room together. For the mudroom and laundry room, choosing complimentary paint colors and charcoal wave wallpaper brought depth and coziness to this project. The result is a timeless design for this Glen Ellyn family. What started as a kitchen refacing turned into a life changing renovation for this family home. After producing a 3D model representing the final design they were hooked. The flow and distribution of passages was key to the success of this concept. A light kitchen palette and clean lines keeps this space bright despite being on a shaded area.

The kitchen is a hub for the home. Because we know this, we removed walls in the original kitchen to open it up to the living and dining room. These very social homeowners could not host parties and entertain their friends and family well in the original galley style layout. A love for cooking inspired the design of the wall above the range. The cabinets were built by hand by the previous owner who was a professional carpenter. In the interest of honoring his life, we kept the boxes and reconfigured the layout while adding some new custom touches that look like they were always there.

This was a kitchen renovation of a mid-century modern home in Peoria, Illinois. The galley kitchen needed more storage, professional cooking appliances, and more connection with the living spaces on the main floor. Kira Kyle, owner of Kitcheart, designed and built-in custom cabinetry with a gray stain finish to highlight the grain of the hickory. Hardware from Pottery Barn in brass. Appliances form Wolf, Vent-A-Hood, and Kitchen Aid. Reed glass was added to the china cabinets. The cabinet above the Kitchen Aid mixer was outfitted with baking storage. Pull-outs and extra deep drawers made storage more accessible. New Anderson windows improved the view. Storage more than doubled without increasing the footprint, and an arched opening to the family room allowed the cook to connect with the rest of the family.

Our clients wanted a kitchen where they could host guests in for holidays. The kitchen was over 11 years old and we did a complete remodeling for the project. We installed a new hardwood flooring, which added dynamism to the minimalism of the kitchen, making it a perfect modern space for hosting.
