The kitchen in this Mid Century Modern home is a true showstopper. The designer expanded the original kitchen footprint and doubled the kitchen in size. The walnut dividing wall and walnut cabinets are hallmarks of the original mid century design, while a mix of deep blue cabinets provide a more modern punch. The triangle shape is repeated throughout the kitchen in the backs of the counter stools, the ends of the waterfall island, the light fixtures, the clerestory windows, and the walnut dividing wall.

This Australian-inspired new construction was a successful collaboration between homeowner, architect, designer and builder. The home features a Henrybuilt kitchen, butler's pantry, private home office, guest suite, master suite, entry foyer with concealed entrances to the powder bathroom and coat closet, hidden play loft, and full front and back landscaping with swimming pool and pool house/ADU.

The "Dream of the '90s" was alive in this industrial loft condo before Neil Kelly Portland Design Consultant Erika Altenhofen got her hands on it. The 1910 brick and timber building was converted to condominiums in 1996. No new roof penetrations could be made, so we were tasked with creating a new kitchen in the existing footprint. Erika's design and material selections embrace and enhance the historic architecture, bringing in a warmth that is rare in industrial spaces like these. Among her favorite elements are the beautiful black soapstone counter tops, the RH medieval chandelier, concrete apron-front sink, and Pratt & Larson tile backsplash

Marrying their love for the mountains with their new city lifestyle, this downtown condo went from a choppy 90’s floor plan to an open and inviting mountain loft. New hardwood floors were laid throughout and plaster walls were featured to give this loft a more inviting and warm atmosphere. The floor plan was reimagined, giving the clients a full formal entry with storage, while letting the rest of the space remain open for entertaining. Custom white oak cabinetry was designed, which also features handmade hardware and a handmade ceramic backsplash.

The original kitchen was designed and built by the original homeowner, needless to say neither design nor building was his profession. Further, the entire house has hydronic tubing in gypcrete for heat which means to utilities (water, ventilation or power) could be brought up through the floor or down from the ceiling except on the the exterior walls. The current homeowners love to cook and have a seasonal garden that generates a lot of lovely fruits and vegetables for both immediate consumption and preserving, hence, kitchen counter space, two sinks, the induction cooktop and the steam oven were all 'must haves' for both the husband and the wife. The beautiful wood plank porcelain tile floors ensures a slip resistant floor that is sturdy enough to stand up to their three four-legged children. Utilizing the three existing j-boxes in the ceiling, the cable and rail system combined with the under cabinet light illuminates every corner of this formerly dark kitchen. Reclaimed beams and worn-in leather mixed with crisp linens and vintage rugs set the tone for this new interpretation of a modern farmhouse. The incorporation of eclectic pieces is offset by soft whites and European hardwood floors. When an old tree had to be removed, it was repurposed as a hand hewn vanity in the powder bath.

This modern farmhouse chic kitchen remodel features clean lines of alabaster cabinets and white gloss ceramic square tiles layered with natural wood tones. Removing the wall between the kitchen and family room allowed for a generous new island with a quartz countertop and farmhouse sink and plenty of below-counter storage space while creating a large open living space. Adding faux ceiling beams helps to transition the space into the modern farmhouse style. The raised upper cabinets provide extended storage space and the lighted top cabinets add beautiful display or functional space. Black quartz flanks the stove and provides plenty of countertop space for cooking tools and kitchen necessities. The dark bronzed and brass detailed hood and matching island lighting complement the kitchen’s neutral colors. The dining nook features a linear aged-iron lighting fixture and under-seating drawers. Featured in House and Home magazine, this Italian Farmhouse inspired kitchen strikes an authentic chord. Ample counter space was included so the family could make homemade pizza and pasta and a small pantry prep area was included in the design to house a salami slicer. This space is subtle, earthy and inviting, making it a perfect spot for large family gatherings.
