70年という月日を守り続けてきた農家住宅のリノベーション 建築当時の強靭な軸組みを活かし、新しい世代の住まい手の想いのこもったリノベーションとなった 夏は熱がこもり、冬は冷たい隙間風が入る環境から 開口部の改修、断熱工事や気密をはかり 夏は風が通り涼しく、冬は暖炉が燈り暖かい室内環境にした 空間動線は従来人寄せのための二間と奥の間を一体として家族の団欒と仲間と過ごせる動線とした 北側の薄暗く奥まったダイニングキッチンが明るく開放的な造りとなった

This house west of Boston was originally designed in 1958 by the great New England modernist, Henry Hoover. He built his own modern home in Lincoln in 1937, the year before the German émigré Walter Gropius built his own world famous house only a few miles away. By the time this 1958 house was built, Hoover had matured as an architect; sensitively adapting the house to the land and incorporating the clients wish to recreate the indoor-outdoor vibe of their previous home in Hawaii. The house is beautifully nestled into its site. The slope of the roof perfectly matches the natural slope of the land. The levels of the house delicately step down the hill avoiding the granite ledge below. The entry stairs also follow the natural grade to an entry hall that is on a mid level between the upper main public rooms and bedrooms below. The living spaces feature a south- facing shed roof that brings the sun deep in to the home. Collaborating closely with the homeowner and general contractor, we freshened up the house by adding radiant heat under the new purple/green natural cleft slate floor. The tall cabinetry to the right utilizes sliding doors to reveal corner storage space. This is Woodawys' unique solution to the typical angled cabinet or lazy susan. By using sliding doors, we can maximize visibility into the cabinet as well as keep a sleek contemporary design aesthetic.
