This is a hidden cat feeding and liter box area in the cabinetry of the laundry room. This is an excellent way to contain the smell and mess of a cat.

The client wanted a spare room off the kitchen transformed into a bright and functional laundry room with custom designed millwork, cabinetry, doors, and plenty of counter space. All this while respecting her preference for French-Country styling and traditional decorative elements. She also wanted to add functional storage with space to air dry her clothes and a hide-away ironing board. We brightened it up with the off-white millwork, ship lapped ceiling and the gorgeous beadboard. We imported from Scotland the delicate lace for the custom curtains on the doors and cabinets. The custom Quartzite countertop covers the washer and dryer and was also designed into the cabinetry wall on the other side. This fabulous laundry room is well outfitted with integrated appliances, custom cabinets, and a lot of storage with extra room for sorting and folding clothes. A pure pleasure! Materials used: Taj Mahal Quartzite stone countertops, Custom wood cabinetry lacquered with antique finish, Heated white-oak wood floor, apron-front porcelain utility sink, antique vintage glass pendant lighting, Lace imported from Scotland for doors and cabinets, French doors and sidelights with beveled glass, beadboard on walls and for open shelving, shiplap ceilings with recessed lighting.

Before we redesigned the basement of this charming but compact 1950's North Vancouver home, this space was an unfinished utility room that housed nothing more than an outdated furnace and hot water tank. Since space was at a premium we recommended replacing the furnace with a high efficiency model and converting the hot water tank to an on-demand system, both of which could be housed in the adjacent crawl space. That left room for a generous laundry room conveniently located at the back entrance of the house where family members returning from a mountain bike ride can undress, drop muddy clothes into the washing machine and proceed to shower in the bathroom just across the hall. Another area we were able to reutilize from the original floorplan was the laundry room, ideally located between the house and the garage. It was an adequate size with a functional layout, though the placement of the steps and doors needed adjustment. We revamped the stairs going into the garage so that the old landing area could be incorporated into the laundry/mudroom. This provided a much more functional thoroughfare from the kitchen to the garage and side porch, added specifically for the homeowner’s grill, as well as direct entry to the mudroom from the orchards. We expanded the shower in this space to create a walk-in, perfect for cleaning up before entering the house and serving as an additional guest bath. The utility sink is commercial and will stand up to heavy use, a very practical selection for this working farm. The countertop, made from the same Quartzite used in the ensuite bathrooms, is not only gorgeous but also easy to clean and provides a convenient space for folding laundry. While being functional and practical, this mudroom is simply lovely!

These clients came to us in one of our design seminars last spring. They have a country home that they wanted to add a brand new addition and completely remodel. The addition would house a new living space with a vaulted ceiling, which would then be open to the kitchen and dining area. The old living room would become a new master suite, with a new master bathroom and closet. We would also be redoing the cabinets in their laundry room and their second bathroom as well. The engineered wood flooring, the tile and the master shower we picked out from Wright’s. The cabinets are our Shiloh brand and designed by Elizabeth Yager Designs through Kuche Fine Cabinetry. And the counter tops are from Kuche Fine Cabinetry but through Pyramid Marble and Granite.
