Updating the finishes was a main priority for the homeowners to ensure that the new space blended well with their existing home. Smooth Hardie lap siding with a large reveal was installed on the exterior for durability and to modernize the look of the detached structure. We replaced the dated, raised-panel garage door with a new flush-panel door. Aluminum-clad windows, metal screen tracks, standing-seam metal roofing, and decorative metal wall sconces accent the new dark grey exterior paint color.

This was a comprehensive exterior remodel. We replaced the roof and deck, there were cedar shingles under the current layer of roofing, we installed new James Hardie siding, we installed new vinyl windows and built a patio cover.

A simple welcoming front entry will be finished off with a nice front step to the main door. A bumped out elevation features board and batten and stone c/w shake on the peak.

This modern update to the prairie-style creates an updated design that blends seamlessly with the nature that surrounds it.

Rustic yet refined, this modern country retreat blends old and new in masterful ways, creating a fresh yet timeless experience. The structured, austere exterior gives way to an inviting interior. The palette of subdued greens, sunny yellows, and watery blues draws inspiration from nature. Whether in the upholstery or on the walls, trailing blooms lend a note of softness throughout. The dark teal kitchen receives an injection of light from a thoughtfully-appointed skylight; a dining room with vaulted ceilings and bead board walls add a rustic feel. The wall treatment continues through the main floor to the living room, highlighted by a large and inviting limestone fireplace that gives the relaxed room a note of grandeur. Turquoise subway tiles elevate the laundry room from utilitarian to charming. Flanked by large windows, the home is abound with natural vistas. Antlers, antique framed mirrors and plaid trim accentuates the high ceilings. Hand scraped wood flooring from Schotten & Hansen line the wide corridors and provide the ideal space for lounging.

The Guemes Island cabin is designed with a SIPS roof and foundation built with ICF. The exterior walls are highly insulated to bring the home to a new passive house level of construction. The highly efficient exterior envelope of the home helps to reduce the amount of energy needed to heat and cool the home, thus creating a very comfortable environment in the home. VISION AND NEEDS: Homeowner sought a ‘retreat’ outside of NY that would have water views and offer options for entertaining groups of friends in the house and by pool. Being a car enthusiast, it was important to have a multi-car-garage. MCHUGH SOLUTION: The client sought McHugh because of our recognizable modern designs in the area. We were up for the challenge to design a home with a narrow lot located in a flood zone where views of the Toms River were secured from multiple rooms; while providing privacy on either side of the house. The elevated foundation offered incredible views from the roof. Each guest room opened up to a beautiful balcony. Flower beds, beautiful natural stone quarried from West Virginia and cedar siding, warmed the modern aesthetic, as you ascend to the front porch.
