I built this on my property for my aging father who has some health issues. Handicap accessibility was a factor in design. His dream has always been to try retire to a cabin in the woods. This is what he got. It is a 1 bedroom, 1 bath with a great room. It is 600 sqft of AC space. The footprint is 40' x 26' overall. The site was the former home of our pig pen. I only had to take 1 tree to make this work and I planted 3 in its place. The axis is set from root ball to root ball. The rear center is aligned with mean sunset and is visible across a wetland. The goal was to make the home feel like it was floating in the palms. The geometry had to simple and I didn't want it feeling heavy on the land so I cantilevered the structure beyond exposed foundation walls. My barn is nearby and it features old 1950's "S" corrugated metal panel walls. I used the same panel profile for my siding. I ran it vertical to match the barn, but also to balance the length of the structure and stretch the high point into the canopy, visually. The wood is all Southern Yellow Pine. This material came from clearing at the Babcock Ranch Development site. I ran it through the structure, end to end and horizontally, to create a seamless feel and to stretch the space. It worked. It feels MUCH bigger than it is. I milled the material to specific sizes in specific areas to create precise alignments. Floor starters align with base. Wall tops adjoin ceiling starters to create the illusion of a seamless board. All light fixtures, HVAC supports, cabinets, switches, outlets, are set specifically to wood joints. The front and rear porch wood has three different milling profiles so the hypotenuse on the ceilings, align with the walls, and yield an aligned deck board below. Yes, I over did it. It is spectacular in its detailing. That's the benefit of small spaces. Concrete counters and IKEA cabinets round out the conversation. For those who cannot live tiny, I offer the Tiny-ish House. The Guemes Island cabin is designed with a SIPS roof and foundation built with ICF. The exterior walls are highly insulated to bring the home to a new passive house level of construction. The highly efficient exterior envelope of the home helps to reduce the amount of energy needed to heat and cool the home, thus creating a very comfortable environment in the home. Вспомогательные помещения: кухня, прихожая, гараж, котельная, хозяйственная комната. Дом выполнен в современном стиле с минимальным количеством деталей. Ориентация жилых помещений на южную сторону.

前面道路側に向かってバルコニーを大きく引き出して、空中に庭のような場所をつくっている。 そこはプライバシーやセキュリティが配慮された６．５畳分のスペースで、アウトドアダイニングを楽しんだり、植物を並べたり、夜風にあたりながらビールを飲んだり、天気のいい日にイスを出して読書したり、多用途に使える。その下に、建主の愛車をちょうど収めることもできる。 外部階段で直にアクセスするバルコニーは玄関ポーチを兼ねていて、そこから1階のホール・ダイニング・リビングへと徐々に下りながら空間が連続している。すべて合わせると３１畳の広さで、一番奥のリビングの天井高さは３．１mになる。 １階から２階は、本棚や収納スペースを備えた階段室を介して斜めに吹き抜けている。家全体がスキップフロアで繋がっていて、建主家族４人が互いの気配を感じられると同時に、２階個室に設けた内装ガラス窓の開閉で居心地を調整できる構成になっている。 敷地は間口が６m、面積が３０坪で、周囲には似た土地が並んでいた。法的条件からするとそこに建つ住宅のアウトラインも必然的に周囲と似たものになる状況だが、バルコニーには自由度が残されていたため、その作り方によって敷地と住宅の長所を最大限に引き出したいと考えた。 前面道路の向かいには植栽が整った低層の老人ホームがあり、敷地から見ると空への抜けが気持ち良い。したがって引き出したバルコニー腰壁の高さを先端で１．１mまで徐々に下げて開放感を持たせつつ、向かいの植栽を借景することにした。老人ホームは建ったばかりなのでしばらく風景は変わらないはずで、それは建主がこの敷地を購入した理由のひとつでもあった。竣工後から、さっそく様々な植物がバルコニーに持ち込まれていて、賑やかな雰囲気が生まれつつある。 １階は両脇に隣家が迫っているが、２階は隣家の屋根越しに日当たりがよく、そこから吹き抜けを伝って１階に柔らかな光が届く。窓を開ければ風が１階から２階へと通り抜けてゆく。吹き抜けの純度を高めるために、２階を支える見え掛かりの柱を取りやめて、代わりに鉄骨階段で支える構造としている。 内装は外装と連続感を持たせつつ、タイル・木・セメント系・塗装・リノリウムなどの素材を床・壁・天井で使い分けている。建主が素材選びに熱心だったこともあり、組み合わせの検討は念入りに行った。全体としてはシンプルで統一的な印象でありながら、各部に着目すると実は様々な表現や使い方が見えてくる、そんな奥行きを感じられる空間になればと考えた。 もっとも検討に時間をかけた外壁は質感のあるセメント系素材で包むように仕上げ、「引き出して」いる部分を異素材の塗装で切り替えている。 切り替え部分はシャープに見せるために既製品を使わず、工事現場で職人と相談して板金で専用に製作した。 アウトラインを街並みに馴染ませながら、独自の住み心地と存在感を持たせようと試みている。

This Ohana model ATU tiny home is contemporary and sleek, cladded in cedar and metal. The slanted roof and clean straight lines keep this 8x28' tiny home on wheels looking sharp in any location, even enveloped in jungle. Cedar wood siding and metal are the perfect protectant to the elements, which is great because this Ohana model in rainy Pune, Hawaii and also right on the ocean. A natural mix of wood tones with dark greens and metals keep the theme grounded with an earthiness. Theres a sliding glass door and also another glass entry door across from it, opening up the center of this otherwise long and narrow runway. The living space is fully equipped with entertainment and comfortable seating with plenty of storage built into the seating. The window nook/ bump-out is also wall-mounted ladder access to the second loft. The stairs up to the main sleeping loft double as a bookshelf and seamlessly integrate into the very custom kitchen cabinets that house appliances, pull-out pantry, closet space, and drawers (including toe-kick drawers). A granite countertop slab extends thicker than usual down the front edge and also up the wall and seamlessly cases the windowsill. The bathroom is clean and polished but not without color! A floating vanity and a floating toilet keep the floor feeling open and created a very easy space to clean! The shower had a glass partition with one side left open- a walk-in shower in a tiny home. The floor is tiled in slate and there are engineered hardwood flooring throughout.

The large roof overhang shades the windows from the high summer sun but allows winter light to penetrate deep into the interior. The living room and bedroom open up to the outdoors through large glass doors.
