This beautiful and exceptionally efficient 2-bed/2-bath house proves that laneway homes do not have to be compromised, but can be beautiful, light and airy places to live. The living room, master bedroom and south-facing deck overlook the adjacent park. There are parking spaces for three vehicles immediately opposite. Like the main residence on the same property, the house is constructed from pre-fabricated Structural Insulated Panels. This, and other highly innovative construction technologies will put the building in a class of its own regarding performance and sustainability. The structure has been seismically-upgraded, and materials have been selected to stand the test of time. The design is strikingly modern but respectful, and the layout is very practical. A bronze cladded extension with a distinctive form in a conservation area, the new extension complements the character of the Queen Anne style Victorian house, and yet contemporary in its design and choice of materials.

Small space living solutions are used throughout this contemporary 596 square foot townhome. Adjustable height table in the entry area serves as both a coffee table for socializing and as a dining table for eating. Curved banquette is upholstered in outdoor fabric for durability and maximizes space with hidden storage underneath the seat. Kitchen island has a retractable countertop for additional seating while the living area conceals a work desk and media center behind sliding shoji screens. Calming tones of sand and deep ocean blue fill the tiny bedroom downstairs. Glowing bedside sconces utilize wall-mounting and swing arms to conserve bedside space and maximize flexibility.

An award winning project to transform a two storey Victorian terrace house into a generous family home with the addition of both a side extension and loft conversion. The side extension provides a light filled open plan kitchen/dining room under a glass roof and bi-folding doors gives level access to the south facing garden. A generous master bedroom with en-suite is housed in the converted loft. A fully glazed dormer provides the occupants with an abundance of daylight and uninterrupted views of the adjacent Wendell Park. Our ’Corten Extension’ project; new open plan kitchen-diner as part of a side-return and rear single storey extension and remodel to a Victorian terrace. The Corten blends in beautifully with the existing brick whilst the plan form kicks out towards the garden to create a small sheltered seating area.

We completely gutted and renovated this historic DC rowhouse and added a rear addition and a roof deck, accessed by stairs to an enclosed structure. The client wanted to maintain a formal, traditional feel at the front of the house and add bolder and contemporary design at the back. We removed the existing partial rear addition, landings, walkways, and retaining walls. The new 3-story rear addition is across the entire width of the house, extending out 24-feet.

By adding some clever imaginative thought to the shape of this roof, this rear kitchen extension has been transformed into a space of a visual delight that is constantly changing with the light and seasons, creating an amazing living environment

Converted from an existing Tuff Shed garage, the Beech Haus ADU welcomes short stay guests in the heart of the bustling Williams Corridor neighborhood. Natural light dominates this self-contained unit, with windows on all sides, yet maintains privacy from the primary unit. Double pocket doors between the Living and Bedroom areas offer spatial flexibility to accommodate a variety of guests and preferences. And the open vaulted ceiling makes the space feel airy and interconnected, with a playful nod to its origin as a truss-framed garage. A play on the words Beach House, we approached this space as if it were a cottage on the coast. Durable and functional, with simplicity of form, this home away from home is cozied with curated treasures and accents. We like to personify it as a vacationer: breezy, lively, and carefree.
