What was a seemingly simple building site needed quite a bit of foundation work. The bermed, west elevation required hammering out bedrock while the porch/east side never did find solid ground. An engineer assisted in designing the gravel french drain system that holds up the front of the home and keeps the initially wet site dry.

Beach house interior and exterior renovation

Back view of beach house features new windows, exterior paint, balcony w/cable railing; the balcony also serves as the roof for the aluminum screen room below that was built on the new Azek decks. On the left side of the house a custom made awning was built using cedar and metal roofing to provide shelter to the side entrance and also reduces the heat that is transferred from being exposed to sun. This vacation home is located within a narrow lot which extends from the street to the lake shore. Taking advantage of the lot's depth, the design consists of a main house and an accesory building to answer the programmatic needs of a family of four. The modest, yet open and connected living spaces are oriented towards the water. Since the main house sits towards the water, a street entry sequence is created via a covered porch and pergola. Modern Shipping Container Cabin

Photography by John Gibbons This project is designed as a family retreat for a client that has been visiting the southern Colorado area for decades. The cabin consists of two bedrooms and two bathrooms – with guest quarters accessed from exterior deck. Project by Studio H:T principal in charge Brad Tomecek (now with Tomecek Studio Architecture). The project is assembled with the structural and weather tight use of shipping containers. The cabin uses one 40’ container and six 20′ containers. The ends will be structurally reinforced and enclosed with additional site built walls and custom fitted high-performance glazing assemblies.

Jefferson Park bungalow remodel

A classic 1922 California bungalow in the historic Jefferson Park neighborhood of Los Angeles restored and enlarged by Tim Braseth of ArtCraft Homes completed in 2015. Originally a 2 bed/1 bathroom cottage, it was enlarged with the addition of a new kitchen wing and master suite for a total of 3 bedrooms and 2 baths. Original vintage details such as a Batchelder tile fireplace and Douglas Fir flooring are complemented by an all-new vintage-style kitchen with butcher block countertops, hex-tiled bathrooms with beadboard wainscoting, original clawfoot tub, subway tile master shower, and French doors leading to a redwood deck overlooking a fully-fenced and gated backyard.
