Clean and simple kitchen with grain matched cabinets. The clients wanted a modern farmhouse look with all the modern functioning extras. We began with the layout which includes panels on the d.w. and fridge, a full trash pull out and swing out in the blind corner. We then went on to design the curved walnut legs on the island, and the custom lay out of the plate rack. The floating shelves with bar for hooks for mugs filled out the function part of the design. Next we found a type of wood that was warm and brown but not too yellow or red. The matching grain of the rift sawn white oak was the choice. The legs on the island are oak which match the stools. The countertops and subway tile and hardware rounded out the choices.

A Gilmans Kitchens and Baths - Design Build Project (REMMIES Award Winning Kitchen) The original kitchen lacked counter space and seating for the homeowners and their family and friends. It was important for the homeowners to utilize every inch of usable space for storage, function and entertaining, so many organizational inserts were used in the kitchen design. Bamboo cabinets, cork flooring and neolith countertops were used in the design. Storage Solutions include a spice pull-out, towel pull-out, pantry pull outs and lemans corner cabinets. Bifold lift up cabinets were also used for convenience. Special organizational inserts were used in the Pantry cabinets for maximum organization. This kitchen proves small East sac bungalows can have high function and all the storage of a larger kitchen. A large peninsula overlooks the dining and living room for an open concept. A lower countertop areas gives prep surface for baking and use of small appliances. Geometric hexite tiles by fireclay are finished with pale blue grout, which complements the upper cabinets. The same hexite pattern was recreated by a local artist on the refrigerator panes. A textured striped linen fabric by Ralph Lauren was selected for the interior clerestory windows of the wall cabinets. Large plank french oak flooring ties the whole home together. A custom Nar designed walnut dining table was crafted to be perfectly sized for the dining room. Eclectic furnishings with leather, steel, brass, and linen textures bring contemporary living to this classic bungalow. A reclaimed piano string board was repurposed as a large format coffee table. Every square inch of this home was optimized with storage including the custom dresser hutch with vanity counter. This petite bath is finished with caviar painted walls, walnut cabinetry, and a retro globe light bar. We think all splashes should have a swoop! The mitered countertop ledge is the clients’ favorite feature of this bath.

Airbnb guests love to see clean kitchens! We created a simple, streamlined kitchenette along one wall with new stainless-steel appliances and upcycled cabinetry and granite countertops for the perfect home away from home. The cream colored backsplash is composed of handmade tile and is super-easy to clean. A freestanding kitchen island with a butcher-block top provides another handy prep area.

Our clients came to us ready for a change. Fraley & Company had worked with their neighbors to update their kitchen a few years back, and we were thrilled for the challenge to work on a very similar kitchen layout. We imposed the challenge on ourselves to make this project completely different from the previous home, while maintaining the character that our newest clients so much appreciated in our previous remodel. Our client for this project envisioned a whimsical great room design that was conducive to hosting gatherings and her ongoing book club. The careful selection of fabrics for the drapery was key to pulling the design together. The airy botanical print became the inspiration for the rest of the color scheme, starting with soft green painted walls. To complete the vision, we placed her colorful inlaid table in the center of the room and surrounded it with trellis-backed rattan chairs, to create a charming small dining area. Our client’s finished great room is now an oasis of tranquility and charm. She’s thrilled to have her new “happy place” – a beautiful, welcoming space to entertain her friends and family.

Space for the refrigerator and dishwasher were limited within the kitchen layout. We wanted the custom cabinetry to be what attracted the eye, not the appliances. By selecting cabinet faced units, they become seamlessly integrated into the rest of the rift sawn white oak cabinets. Photography by 22 Pages Photography
