Condos are often a challenge – can’t move water, venting has to remain connected to existing ducting and recessed cans may not be an option. In this project, we had an added challenge – we could not lower the ceiling on the exterior wall due to a continual leak issue that the HOA has put off due to the multi-million-dollar expense. DESIGN PHILOSOPHY: Work Centers: prep, baking, clean up, message, beverage and entertaining. Vignette Design: avoid wall to wall cabinets, enhance the work center philosophy Geometry: create a more exciting and natural flow ANGLES: the baking center features a Miele wall oven and Liebherr Freezer, the countertop is 36” deep (allowing for an extra deep appliance garage with stainless tambour). CURVES: the island, desk and ceiling is curved to create a more natural flow. A raised drink counter in Sapele allows for “bellying up to the bar” CIRCLES: the 60” table (seating for 6) is supported by a steel plate and a custom column (used also to support the end of the curved desk – not shown) ISLAND CHALLENGE: To install recessed cans and connect to the existing ducting – we dropped the ceiling 6”. The dropped ceiling curves at the end of the island to the existing ceiling height at the pantry/desk area of the kitchen. A Gilmans Kitchens and Baths - Design Build Project (REMMIES Award Winning Kitchen) The original kitchen lacked counter space and seating for the homeowners and their family and friends. It was important for the homeowners to utilize every inch of usable space for storage, function and entertaining, so many organizational inserts were used in the kitchen design. Bamboo cabinets, cork flooring and neolith countertops were used in the design. Storage Solutions include a spice pull-out, towel pull-out, pantry pull outs and lemans corner cabinets. Bifold lift up cabinets were also used for convenience. Special organizational inserts were used in the Pantry cabinets for maximum organization. The design focus for this North London Victorian terrace home design project was the refurbishment and reconfiguration of the ground floor together with additional space of a new side-return. Orienting and organising the interior architecture to maximise sunlight during the course of the day was one of our primary challenges solved. While the front of the house faces south-southeast with wonderful direct morning light, the rear garden faces northwest, consequently less light for most of the day. ​

Custom cabinets are featured in this kitchen: alder wall cabinets and pantries with recessed-panel doors, combined with horizontal rift-oak base cabinets that have slab doors and drawers. Corian was used for the "working' countertops, with quartzite used for the tabletop, wall cap, and backsplash inserts. Custom LED lighting used in the recessed trayed ceiling and for task lighting. The kitchen has several special features, including see-through cabinets installed in front of windows, to maximize the daylighting on the north side of the home. Inspired Imagery Photography

The Kichen Furniture This was the first octagonal framed kitchen by Tim Wood and all the kitchen furniture was free standing, some of which came out when the flat was later sold, to be re used. The octagonal island has a granite top and the other worktops are in iroko, with Gothic style drainers either side of the double French farmhouse sink. The plinths have recessed oak dovetailed drawers set on hidden runners. All the insides of the cupboards are finished in zebrano. The Flat This zebrano and oak Gothic style kitchen was designed for a flat in Palace Court, London that was previously owned by Rodney Fitch the designer and was converted by Tim Wood from one very large flat into two in 1988. The kitchen is a classic 'U' shape, with an island inset into it. The dining room is adjacent to the kitchen. A walkway between the kitchen and dining room leads out to an enclosed glass sunroom with perfect views of the ravine and Lake Michigan.
