These homeowners decided to do a partial home renovation to make their home more of a functional space as well as make it more of a entertainment space. From there kitchen, to their bathroom, and the exterior, we renovated this home to the nines to make it beautiful and also work for this couple. Pacific Beach Townhouse with a trendy tasteful owner. Working on this scheme was a delight as the owner had excellent taste. A connoisseur of quality we hunted down the very best Neolith Countertop to make sure it was tenant proof for the future. The bathroom has subway tiles and delicate carrara marble countertop, contrasted with a modern black faucet and fixtures. Brass cabinet knobs and wall scones. The large circle wall mirror ties in brass and black accents, with just a pop of vintage brown leather detailing. The large dark gray tile floors mimic a modern and open loft space. This kitchen in Glenside, Pennsylvania is an instant classic. A herringbone mosaic backsplash in Carrara marble pairs with an excellent cabinet color: it can read blue, grey, or sometimes even a little bit green. We all want our kitchens to feel warm and welcoming so it may be counterintuitive to use a cool color on such a major visual element of the kitchen. The secret to our success here? Pairing it with rich walnut countertops and exposed brick in the kitchen. It also works well when paired with the dark oak cupboards, which were an original feature in the butler’s pantry. In that pantry space, open shelves store large casserole dishes, cookbooks, and drink bottles in a spot that used to be a cavity for a dumbwaiter but now serves as useful storage. We also made room for a little reclaimed desk, and the chair’s seat cushion sweetly coordinates with the kitchen window treatment. Perhaps our favorite element of this kitchen interior is the elegant design of the glass-front cabinet to the left of the sink, which displays sparkly silver goblets. Slightly oversized polished nickel cup pulls and a nickel ceiling light pick on the silver on display and provide just that little bit of extra sparkle. Blue and white Chinese pottery adds a classic pop of a more saturated blue and a roman shade softens the window without cutting out too much light.

When it comes to choosing a new kitchen, some homeowners have a very specific brief. But most, like Rosario and John need a little expert guidance. ‘We knew we wanted a contemporary kitchen with modern appliances,’ Rosario explains. ‘But we didn’t know exactly what was available and whether they would suit our needs or style. In general our brief was quite simple – a new kitchen, with up-to-date appliances and a central island where we could gather with family and entertain friends.’ Having researched a number of companies, the couple were impressed by Timbercraft’s high standard of quality kitchens, the variety of designs available and the fact that all products could be customised to their specific needs. Meeting senior designer Áine O’Connor, proved the icing on the cake. ‘Áine really impressed us,’ Rosario says. ‘As well as advising us on the style of kitchen, she also told us how we could make the best use of the space available. Her ideas, including flipping the whole layout, wouldn’t have occurred to us. Yet as it turned out, it makes perfect sense! Equally, her suggestion that we remodel the dining area and create a link to the kitchen, integrating the utility room with what’s known as a ‘priest hole’ has proven absolutely brilliant. The addition of a French door and extended windows means that, with our seating area facing the garden and patio, we have beautiful views over the countryside.’
