As a practical trend, formal dining spaces have largely become obsolete in favor of great, dynamic kitchens; however, bucking the movement, my young, but highly traditional client wanted to enjoy evening meals as a routine close to the family’s scattered and hectic days. Ceilings are christened a whisper of a blush to inspire relaxed conversation under the halo of a warm glow. The traditional table and chairs are the yield of a highly juried online treasure hunt. Each piece is meticulously refinished in an updated stain more reflective of the young homeowners. Performance fabric is used on the chairs to ensure ease of cleanability to combat daily use by children and young adults. Walls are clad in a cut velvet and metallic animal print wallpaper to add subtle nostalgia from eras gone by. Millwork is freshly painted in a semi-gloss alabaster to offer relief from the wallpaper and ceiling. The opulent, antique-inspired chandelier is the dazzling focal point with draped crystal beading. Linen drapery panels seamlessly silhouette the cozy window seat. Cleanable yet regal velvet fabric upholstered cushions, ornamented with a braided trim add a final pop of elegance.

We suggested adding custom built in cabinetry to the dining room and recessed led tape light on the edge of the new wallpaper. Along with distinctive white shelving with brass railings. Combined with a soft rustic dining room table, bold lily wallpaper and custom wall art by Stephanie Paige this dining room is a show stopped for all to enjoy! In the dining room, Pineapple House has a painted coffered ceiling with tongue and groove V-notch slats. It adds interest and texture to the 10 foot ceiling. To create trim with a flowing, seamless appearance, drapery cornices are integrated into the crown molding. Intense sun penetrates the room and led to the creation of a three-part window treatment. Designers use stationary drapery panels for acoustics and to soften edges. They add roman shades for solar control. A gothic-inspired arched valance in embossed linen for a formal accent. The valance is a soft echo of the gothic motif on the fireplace surround in the home’s adjacent keeping room. On the walls, they cut grass cloth into squares and alternate their direction when it is being hung. This creates a subtle visual effect that changes as the sun dances through the room and you walk around the space. Square nail heads punctuate the intersections by being turned and set on their tips, creating a 3-dimensional diamond shape. Chris Little Photography

This space does double duty for our client, serving as a homework station, lounge, and small entertaining space. We used a hexagonal shape for the quartz table top to get the most seating in this small dining room.

Most think the wall treatment is paper however it is actually a painted mural inspired by a small swatch of antique Fortuny silk fabric that the artists and I needed to imagine perhaps the full repeat could have been. This mural is absolutely one-of-a-kind and finished with a linen texture.
