This brownstone, located in Harlem, consists of five stories which had been duplexed to create a two story rental unit and a 3 story home for the owners. The owner hired us to do a modern renovation of their home and rear garden. The garden was under utilized, barely visible from the interior and could only be accessed via a small steel stair at the rear of the second floor. We enlarged the owner’s home to include the rear third of the floor below which had walk out access to the garden. The additional square footage became a new family room connected to the living room and kitchen on the floor above via a double height space and a new sculptural stair. The rear facade was completely restructured to allow us to install a wall to wall two story window and door system within the new double height space creating a connection not only between the two floors but with the outside. The garden itself was terraced into two levels, the bottom level of which is directly accessed from the new family room space, the upper level accessed via a few stone clad steps. The upper level of the garden features a playful interplay of stone pavers with wood decking adjacent to a large seating area and a new planting bed. Wet bar cabinetry at the family room level is mirrored by an outside cabinetry/grill configuration as another way to visually tie inside to out. The second floor features the dining room, kitchen and living room in a large open space. Wall to wall builtins from the front to the rear transition from storage to dining display to kitchen; ending at an open shelf display with a fireplace feature in the base. The third floor serves as the children’s floor with two bedrooms and two ensuite baths. The fourth floor is a master suite with a large bedroom and a large bathroom bridged by a walnut clad hall that conceals a closet system and features a built in desk. The master bath consists of a tiled partition wall dividing the space to create a large walkthrough shower for two on one side and showcasing a free standing tub on the other. The house is full of custom modern details such as the recessed, lit handrail at the house’s main stair, floor to ceiling glass partitions separating the halls from the stairs and a whimsical builtin bench in the entry.

The fireplace is a Cosmo 42 gas fireplace by Heat & Go. The stone is white gold craft orchard limestone from Creative Mines. The floor tile is Pebble Beach and Halila in a Versailles pattern by Carmel Stone Imports.

Located less than a quarter of a mile from the iconic Widemouth Bay in North Cornwall, this innovative development of five detached dwellings is sympathetic to the local landscape character, whilst providing sustainable and healthy spaces to inhabit. As a collection of unique custom-built properties, the success of the scheme depended on the quality of both design and construction, utilising a palette of colours and textures that addressed the local vernacular and proximity to the Atlantic Ocean. A fundamental objective was to ensure that the new houses made a positive contribution towards the enhancement of the area and used environmentally friendly materials that would be low-maintenance and highly robust – capable of withstanding a harsh maritime climate. Externally, bonded Porcelanosa façade at ground level and articulated, ventilated Porcelanosa façade on the first floor proved aesthetically flexible but practical. Used alongside natural stone and slate, the Porcelanosa façade provided a colourfast alternative to traditional render. Internally, the streamlined design of the buildings is further emphasized by Porcelanosa worktops in the kitchens and tiling in the bathrooms, providing a durable but elegant finish. The sense of community was reinforced with an extensive landscaping scheme that includes a communal garden area sown with wildflowers and the planting of apple, pear, lilac and lime trees. Cornish stone hedge bank boundaries between properties further improves integration with the indigenous terrain. This pioneering project allows occupants to enjoy life in contemporary, state-of-the-art homes in a landmark development that enriches its environs. Photographs: Richard Downer

Handmade in Britain, this bespoke, Shaker style kitchen with ‘in-frame’ doors hung with traditional stainless steel butt hinges. This luxurious kitchen features Oak dovetailed and polished drawer boxes on soft-close concealed runners and polished Birch plywood 18mm solid backed carcasses. The island units are factory painted in Dolphin from Little Greene Paint & Paper and all other units are factory painted in Stone II from the Paint & Paper Library. The overall colour scheme is complemented by the White Carrara Quartz worktops All cup handles and knobs are in an Oxford stainless steel finish.  Designer: Deik (www.deik.co.uk) Photographer: Anna Stathaki Floral/prop stylish: Simone Bell We have also recently completed a commercial design project for Café Kitsuné in Pantechnicon (a Nordic-Japanese inspired shop, restaurant and café). Simplicity and understated luxury The property is a Grade II listed building in the Queen’s Gate Conservation area. It has been carefully refurbished to make the most out of its existing period features, with all structural elements and mechanical works untouched and preserved. The client asked for modest, understated modern luxury, and wanted to keep some of the family antique furniture. The flat has been transformed with the use of neutral, clean and simple elements that blend subtly with the architecture of the shell. Classic furniture and modern details complement and enhance one another. The focus in this project is on craftsmanship, handiwork and the use of traditional, natural, timeless materials. A mix of solid oak, stucco plaster, marble and bronze emphasize the building’s heritage. The raw stucco walls provide a simple, earthy warmth, referencing artisanal plasterwork. With its muted tones and rough-hewn simplicity, stucco is the perfect backdrop for the timeless furniture and interiors. Feature wall lights have been carefully placed to bring out the surface of the stucco, creating a dramatic feel throughout the living room and corridor. The bathroom and shower room employ subtle, minimal details, with elegant grey marble tiles and pale oak joinery creating warm, calming tones and a relaxed atmosphere.

The shelves are populated with a carefully selected array of items that blend aesthetics with functionality. Among the items, a standout piece is a gold teardrop-shaped ornament that provides a luxurious accent to the composition. Each element on the shelves appears intentional, contributing to an overall aesthetic that is both sophisticated and inviting. This bespoke joinery not only serves as a functional storage solution but also as a statement piece that reflects the company's commitment to creating custom interiors that are uniquely tailored to the client's taste and lifestyle.

We loved transforming this one-bedroom apartment in Chelsea. The list of changes was pretty long, but included rewiring, replastering, taking down the kitchen wall to make the lounge open-plan and replacing the floor throughout the apartment with beautiful hardwood. It was important for the client to have a home office desk, so we decided on an L-shape sofa to make maximum use of the space. The large pendant light added drama and a focal point to the room. And the off-white colour palette provided a subtle backdrop for the art. You'll notice that either side of the fireplace we have mirrored the wall, gives the illusion of the room being larger and also boosts the light flooding into the room.
