A contemporary outdoor entertainment space which includes a fire pit with 'floating seating', outdoor bar with a decorative overhead structure, BBQ and pizza oven. The brickwork is finished in a pigmented plaster finish except for the fire pit which is raw clay brick. The seating around the fire pit is a 'floating' timber bench supported by a steel sub frame. This brilliant small courtyard garden is just 6m long by 4m wide and is backed by a railway. The Brief for this design was for a Modern style with dramatic, dark colours and a better arranged entertainment area with BBQ & Bin storage. As the garden is small, it was important for us to create the perfect layout and make use of the sunlight and surrounding features as much as we could. By painting the beautiful 'cobblestone wall' a dark colour and planting tall plants in front, we gave the garden a feeling of lengthening. The BBQ & Bin store not only acts as storage but a surface to cook on and a small herb garden.

In this Hamptons styled landscape we used herringbone tiling to connect and draw people to the supersized alfresco space. The interwoven cooking, dining, lounge & occasional spaces are linked by three overflowing urn water features. The space features an off form polished BBQ bench with sink. The bench is faced with white cladding. Batten screens provide privacy whilst also framing views. The same battens in the pergola to provide a linear shadow feature. The greenwall to the kitchen splashback window was created by planting of Lady palm begins an interplay of linear and layered planting of green featuring Buxus, Viburnum, Ornamental Pears, Lily Pily, Magnolias, Murrayas and Helichrysum. This small back garden had more than its share of issues to address. From the narrow angled site, to the slope of the ground, lack of privacy, public drains, aging existing retaining walls and deck, underground electrical wiring, and difficult access, it really had it all! The clients wanted a leafy secluded spot, where they could relax, entertain and feel immersed in nature. They also wanted a small productive area for some herbs and fruit trees. A garden shed was required and a means of access through from the front garden, although privacy was to be important. The old deck was removed and replaced with beautiful vitex decking. This new deck connect the rooms of the house opening onto the and then wraps itself around the house, effectively managing the worst of the slope and creating clear symmetry within the angled boundaries. A central retained bed with a feature flowering cherry tree creates a generous boardwalk and makes the decking feel part of the garden. A privacy screen and considered planting increases privacy. A series of oversize platform stairs lead up to the highest part of the garden, which in time will be filled with raised beds for vegetable and herbs and dwarf fruit trees. Generous natural schist stepping stones connect the utility area of the garden to the decked area. The planting is designed to be leafy and green with soft white accents through the season. Beautiful feature trees include Prunus Shimidsu Sakura, Cercis Canadensis and Betula jacquemonti. Summer flowering perennials include alchemilla mollis, anenome japonica and hydrangea.
