With enormous rectangular beams and round log posts, the Spanish Peaks House is a spectacular study in contrasts. Even the exterior—with horizontal log slab siding and vertical wood paneling—mixes textures and styles beautifully. An outdoor rock fireplace, built-in stone grill and ample seating enable the owners to make the most of the mountain-top setting. Inside, the owners relied on Blue Ribbon Builders to capture the natural feel of the home’s surroundings. A massive boulder makes up the hearth in the great room, and provides ideal fireside seating. A custom-made stone replica of Lone Peak is the backsplash in a distinctive powder room; and a giant slab of granite adds the finishing touch to the home’s enviable wood, tile and granite kitchen. A basement bathroom for a teen boy was custom made to his personal aesthetic. a floating vanity gives more space for a matt underneath and makes the room feel even bigger. a shower with black hardware and fixtures is a dramatic look. The wood tones of the vanity warm up the dark fixtures and tiles.

The Sheridan is that special project that sparked the beginning of AYYA. Meeting with the home owners and having the opportunity to design those intimate spaces of their charming home in Uptown Chicago was a pleasure and privilege. The focus of this design story is respecting the architecture and the history of the building while creating a contemporary design that relates to their modern life. The spaces were completely transformed from what they were to become at their best potential. The Primary Bathroom was a nod to tradition with the black and white subway tiles, a custom walnut vanity, and mosaic floors. While the Guest Bathroom took a more modern approach, bringing more vertical texture and bold colors to create a statement that connects this room with the rest of the house.

This Master Bathroom was outdated in appearance and although the size of the room was sufficient, the space felt crowded. The toilet location was undesirable, the shower was cramped and the bathroom floor was cold to stand on. The client wanted a new configuration that would eliminate the corner tub, but still have a bathtub in the room, plus a larger shower and more privacy to the toilet area. The 1980’s look needed to be replaced with a clean, contemporary look. A new room layout created a more functional space. A separated space was achieved for the toilet by relocating it and adding a cabinet and custom hanging pipe shelf above for privacy. By adding a double sink vanity, we gained valuable floor space to still have a soaking tub and larger shower. In-floor heat keeps the room cozy and warm all year long. The entry door was replaced with a pocket door to keep the area in front of the vanity unobstructed. The cabinet next to the toilet has sliding doors and adds storage for towels and toiletries and the vanity has a pull-out hair station. Rich, walnut cabinetry is accented nicely with the soft, blue/green color palette of the tiles and wall color. New window shades that can be lifted from the bottom or top are ideal if they want full light or an unobstructed view, while maintaining privacy. Handcrafted swirl pendants illuminate the vanity and are made from 100% recycled glass.

The 2nd-floor primary suite is designed for relaxation at its finest with a Hudson Valley chandelier, vaulted ceiling, and a 67” free-standing soaking tub.

In this Spa Bath Siteline frameless flat panel Cantor door style in Walnut finish cabinetry was installed. The countertop on the vanity is Solid Surface Hi-Macs Terni with 6” high backsplash. In the shower is MSI Hazelwood quartz on the bench top, curb top and niche shelf. Radiance LED lighted mirror. Brizo Virage faucet in chrome finish and Pulse Power Shot Shower System showerhead and handheld in chrome. Moen Voss collection accessories in chrome include towel bar, towel ring, robe hooks, toilet paper holder, toilet tank lever. A Kohler Cimmaron white comfort ht toilet. Thermosol Steam Unit components: Generator, square steam head, square microtouch control in chrome. 3/8” heavy clear glass steam shower enclosure. The shower tile is 11x23 Contessa Oro Polish wall tile; 1x2 Keystone Urban Putty Speckle for shower floor and ceiling. The flooring is 12x24 Contess Oro matte finish tile.
