A custom hand-knotted area rug with a pattern of squares echoes the newly-added coffered ceiling above. Recessed lighting provides additional lighting and the gray ceiling coordinates with the fabrics . The chandelier creates another focal point, with square glass beads and brass elements in contrast to nickel tones throughout. Floating glass shelves with brass supports flank the resident artist's original artwork and display cherished collections.

Bright, crisp and contemporary, the citrus-toned silk chair fabric creates a dramatic effect against the neutral pale gray palette of this dining room. The colors are echoed in citrusy throw pillows in the open sunken living room, where the brick fireplace creates a contrasting focal point.
A Murano glass pendant chandelier hangs over the lacquered wood table with goatskin pattern finish; the table expands to easily seat extra guests in this open setting. A favorite sculpture creates vertical interest along with beautiful uncovered windows that allow natural light and views in.

AFTER - The new open floor plan was further enhanced by coordinating finishes throughout. The rich oak hardwood floors, installed throughout, add warmth, increase resale value, and eliminate threshold tripping hazards. The merging of furniture and collections from two households created an aesthetically appealing blend of his, hers, and theirs.
Angling the dining room table allowed it to fit more easily into the new smaller space. The furniture is grounded by an area rug and has room for expansion with its extra leaf when entertaining larger groups. The grandfather clock fits perfectly against the narrow dining room wall, an unexpected yet ideal placement.
