you can find some great richly colored bedrooms. and it might be fun to have each of your guest rooms be some great color (which is then the room's name) but it will be harder for you to pull off in terms of decor. You may be able to achieve the effect just with neutral walls for now - and later, a blue theme in one and some other color theme in another. AC - I like - We could do one "the green room" and the other "the blue room" This floor peaking out is closest to our OG hardwood. I am crappy at decor so if the wall color is rich and I can do minimal decor, the better. I just don't have an eye for it nor do I enjoy it. :)
light neutral with bright white trim - I'm inclined to do this in your foyer and up the stairs so the trim difference in this space (painted rather than stained) goes away a bit. AC- agreed - maybe one day we will stripe ALL the oil based paint off ALL The trim and bring it back to it's wood glory but that is def. not in scope right now. Painted trim will stay where currently painted. We obv. NOT be painting trim that is the OG wood.
SYH project - wood trim and cabinetry hiding hood
I've done this sort of thing before, freestanding hood between upper cabinets, but it's not my preference.

hall pantry inspo AC: oooooo I like this. This is beautiful! Could I repurpose what is in the kitchen now? SY: Hey there's an idea!
pinning for inspiration for function / generally elevated effect of butler's pantry in hall. Yours needn't have water, I think. (though if you put plumbing behind your range for a pot filler, or if the sink has to go on the east kitchen wall because of ventilation - we will have that convo on Friday - you could also perhaps easily get water here, if you wanted it for coffee.) AC: I don’t think we need water there SY: check.
hood AC: I like the cone ones better SY: hm, cone? the problem is that we are between cabinets at your range. I don't like the hoods that aren't built-in between cabinets. We could make it look like a cabinet. I'll drop some images.
rockport gray cabinets
gray owl cabinets
Benjamin Moore Gray Owl on the cabinets AC: I think I like the gray owl best too
lower cabinets: Benj Moore Cape May Cobblestone - darker. I think I prefer the lighter of Gray Owl. I will have these samples to show you in person, and also countertops.

Casearstone Frosty Carrina - much more subtle veining
Vicostone Statuario
Caeasarstone Statuario Nuvo
Caesarstone Calacatta Nuvo
vicostone carrara polished quartz AC: these all look the same to me but I’m good with them all. SY: :) Just noting the ones I'll show you Friday.

SY: from your idea book. beautiful. tell me what you like about this? AC: clean and crisp. Love the color of the cabinets,l tile back splash and pulls. SY: check, check and check.
SY: another gorgeous kitchen with old school tile floor. thoughts? AC: cabinets are a YASSS! Floor, pass. I don’t like red. Sink is good. I can handle that 1 floating shelf. SY: got it! SY: bringing this up to the top too: modeling kitchen cabinet color and countertop on this. Maybe also backsplash. Thoughts on backsplash here? Square is coming back (as a hipper, throw-back option instead of subway). The marble (likely quartz) backsplash below (in the image with the creamy yellow cabinets and old fashioned sink) is easier to maintain, but more $$$. AC: I’m good with a back splash that is adorable and easy to maintain. I don’t really notice then if I am being honest. SY: check.
SY: some beautiful elements as well as overall effect here. your thoughts? AC: G and I talked and this is our favorite floor! So pretty. Likely that everything else feels neutral to offset the bold floor. Not super crazy about floating shelves bc then I have to keep things clean and organized. ???♀️ I also like the pulls on the cabinets and overall oven area counter space on both side of my cook top is key. SY: perfect. I love this too. Do you like the hood? Sconces? AC: Hood = good. Scones = we dont like them. Floor choice #1. SY: this is my primary inspiration image for the aesthetic of the kitchen. Good? I just have to figure out how your wood trim from the living/dining/foyer are translated into this space. The wood tone shown here is just a placeholder for that. AC: good.
hm. I don't want wood floors, I don't think, and I'd like painted rather than stained cabinets for you. But this image is interesting. The subway and marble and wood trim look good together... AC: agreed- non wood floor and painted cabinets
hm. maybe if we just bring the stained ceiling beams through the kitchen, but not the trim. AC: open to that
here's an interesting variant: the trim matches the cabinets. (also, sink? faucet?) AC: looks too washed out to me. Bring me some color contrast! :) SY: You got it. What kind of sink do you like? Farmhouse? undermount stainless? other thoughts? AC: I like this apron sink and under mount. mount is probably my preference but apron I am open too if it works Aesthetically
hm. white trim. old fashioned faucet and sink. marble. talk to me about some of these elements. AC: I don’t like this faucet or sink. Marble is good. I like the wood trim better in the other pics
you can see how open the kitchen was to the front of the house, so it made all kinds of sense to pull that stained trim through in that situation. It is less open in your house, so perhaps not as necessary.
Back to kitchen. I am pondering if we keep the trim white, or match the dining and living. What are your thoughts? This is that 1920s home we did, in which we matched the lovely wood trim from the front of the house through to the kitchen, to give it the same status as the "public" spaces. AC: I am good either way. I like the idea of giving it the same status of the other parts of the house. I will spend more time here with people then in my dining room
if we don't do wood stained trim in the kitchen (and maybe even if we do), we need to find other ways to bring that wood tone in.
