The well-worn wood floors here connect to the walls with very simple flat-stock baseboard trim. In fact, the whole home style here reflects a transitional mentality by surrounding the traditional four-panel doors with flat stock trim that dies smoothly into the baseboard — with no traditional plinth-block at the bottom.
The number-one question when choosing an end table: How tall should it be? The rule of thumb is that its surface area should be equal to or just below the height of the sofa arms. For a standard sofa, that’s around 25 inches, but get out the measuring tape to be sure (I did, and it’s a good thing — the arms on mine hit 28 inches). Most end tables are between 22 and 30 inches.

Wood blinds — even faux wood ones — are another popular option. Wood brings a softer, more organic feel to windows than an aluminum blind does. If you go this route, realize that faux wood has a couple of advantages over the real thing: It can be substantially less expensive, and it’s not as susceptible to moisture issues, which makes it a great choice for bathrooms, kitchens and clammy climates. If you are going to use a painted wood blind, you might as well go faux. Nobody will be able to tell the difference. The wood blinds shown here, by the way, have a top treatment that conceals the roll and clutch — always a good idea!
