    Dear Brysons--

that is a great question! the countertop is made from a single plank of sugar pine, 22" wide.
Pine for a countertop in a wet area sounds crazy--but listen to this:

that plank was left over from a set of kitchen counters I made for my cousin in 1982. She raised four kids in that house, and when she sold it a few years ago, she sanded down the dings and scratches and it was still beautiful.

over the years, the left over scrap was used as a make-shift counter, a table, and a coffee table. Finally, when this bathroom project came up, the scrap was the perfect length and width for the vanity top.

There you have it! Thanks again for your question.
